Dear friends, I'm doing a comp in a few weeks...for a good cause

(this gets me into heaven, right?!)

Anyway, be on the look out for another thread from me asking for your kindness by way of donations. It's a push/pull comp and we're assembling a team to compete in honor of raising money for the Leukemia Society. My goal is a 200 bench and 400 DL (nothing too lofty).

Thanks in advance for your awesomeness.

Team Strongbow is in for a good cause.

Hey peeps, finally got our donation site up and running. Pls send me a PM or reply in this thread and I'll provide you the link.

Many thanks in advance for your generosity. Every dollar counts.

Got your PM, will get on it.

Congrats bro, well done!

i'd give but you said "dear friends" so this eliminate me. i apologize that i hate you

Thank you very much to those kind enough to donate - means a lot (to ppl much more important than I).

Competition is this Sunday, weigh-ins Sat night. Feeling pretty good about my goals, actually. Hit 190 on the bench today, so 200 shouldn't be a problem (though my shldr is aching something fierce). Pulled 355 several times last week on DLs and, though my back is still smoked, 400 shouldn't be an issue either.

good luck killah... just remember who you are doing it for and hopefully it will power you to your goals!

you wearing a belt?
and if they have a real DL bar you'll be surprized how much you'll pull...a real DL bar is longer and floppy,
and you can use the spring effect to great advantage

belt, shirt, suit. yes, yes, yes. just tried a bench shirt for the 1st time lastnight, shit's awkward.

i doubt you'll be able to even get two hundred lbs down to your chest, if the shirt fits good no way.
my double denim shirt i couldn't get 365 down to my chest it just was too tight.
i could get 405 down but not up

we tried a mad tight one and ur right, 215 wasnt nearly enough to get down to my chest. then moved to a looser one and I got it.

i'd give you my shirt if you wanted it, it's an inzer triple denim (not double like i said previously)...i never use it.
just too much work for the solo lifter, plus pain in the ass trying to get it on it fit so tight.

appreciate that, but don't plan on using it often. training for this comp was fun and totally new/different for me, but not something I plan to do often. shoulder fucking aches something wicked.

Wow, not even sure what to think right now. Meet is cancelled. Found out in a wonderful way - our team drove an hour to the hotel tonight for the weigh-ins (meet was supposed to be tomorrow morning) only to find nobody there. GM told me it was cancelled.

Lots of emotions about that, mostly disappointment.

After the initial bummed out stage, we said "fuck it" and decided we'll go ahead and have our own PL meet tomorrow morning regardless. So, 4 complete psychopaths will be entering the local gym on God's day around 11am and, in full gear, and attempt to break all the personal goals we set for ourselves when this whole thing started.

Figure that's the least we owe the wonderful people who donated to the Society. I'm very sorry to those who were gracious enough to offer up their hard earned cash, but know that it still goes to the Society.

I kid, I kid. I'm happy to give to a good cause, even if you don't get to beat your personal best bench press (the bar) in front of a roaring crowd/

So, we followed through (which I'm personally proud of). Not the smartest move, but I played a league basketball game literally right before we hit the gym. Anyway, I missed 400 on the DL. Got 385 (PR), but missed 400 3 times 100% cause of weak grip. Gotta work on that. A little disappointed in that, but still relatively pleased. Got 200 easily on bench, so moved to 225. Missed it first time, then fucked its asshole and got it the 2nd time.

All in all, pretty happy. Especially for a historically weak kid. Guess you never know until you try.....

today everyone get's a trophy

if you wanted to you could easily be repping 225 in months.
bench gains come easy at first i've found, then you wall out big time.
could be real simple:
185 5*5 once a week, with a close grip bench light day also
then 190 the next week 5*5...keep inching like that.
before long you'll be 5*5'ing 225 with no spotter guaranteed bro.

Goddamn how cheesy! Who was running this? What a bunch of asswipes. My mom survived lymphoma and I used to participate in a lot of fundraising for leukemia, Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and never witnessed any total lameness like this.

I should clarify - the meet had zero to due with the Society. My crew and I just decided to add the charitable aspect for our personal team.
