Deadlifts While Dieting- Is It A Good Idea???

Guys, what's your opinion of doing Deadlifts while dieting? I know your body is in a vulnerable state with the decrease calories. Just to clarify, I'm not talking about heavy sets of 3-5. It'll be moderate weights for sets of 10 reps. Also, do you REALLY think that Deadlifts & Squats hinder your efforts in decreasing your waistline? I want to include them because of the growth producing effects it places on the entire body plus they burn alot of calories. But, not at the expense of thickening the waist. What's your opinion??

Deadlifts are ALWAYS a good idea.

Be careful with the 10 rep sets though, fatigue will set in pretty easily on reduced calories, and along with it will come poor form.

When I very first started to do this seriously and lose some weight, I kept deads at about 6-8 reps, and stayed short of failure. Heavy enough to prevent muscle loss and burned some good calories.

Yeah, go for it. I do 4 sets+1 warmup set. 2x conventional x 6 or so reps, and 2x6-8 with stiff leg. I dothem on leg day, though I don't do heavy squats while dieting. Maybe a couple of light sets every couple of weeks.

Hell yeah! Deadlifts and Squats use more muscle, burn more calories, and promote a greater circulation of anabolic/anti-catabolic hormones than any of other exercises. As long you're getting enough rest in between workouts, have a good diet plan going, and time your last meal before your workout properly, you should have no problem having the energy for your Deadlift sets.

You shouldn't have to worry about your waist growing. Ab Vacuums a few times a week, good Deadlifting form and stretching your hip flexors afterwards will shrink your waist while cutting.
