I'm with X all the way here. And just to put my cards on the table I'm either Jewish or Arab. However I've been on UN peace keeping service in Lebanon a number of time's and Arabs sicken me.
Now I'm not up on middle east history or as articulate (sp'ing) as X so I'm not going to go argueing about "he said this, he said that" sort of crap.
But about American money, yeah give then more. There's probably no other richer people in this world than Arabs but they'd rather shite on their own people than give a little money to help out once in a while. A couple of things about Lebanon will always remain with me, one is the poverty, it's unreal. Yet living next door to a shanty town could be house's costing millions whose own's are content to make their millions dealing a diamonds in Africa while their own are dying at home of starvation.
When we'd cross the Isreali-Lebanese border we joke about going back 2000 years. Isreal is a beautifull country, except when we'd venture into or near to arabs communities where their content to live like animals. And yes weapon X is right about refugee's. lebanon's problems with Isreal only began when they were rejected by the Lebanese population for their terror tactics against the Lebanese. The palestinians then started attacking Isreal accross their border's. When in 1978 the isreali's invaded Lebanon they were welcomed in by the local population who were in a grip of palestian torrorists. The mistake Isreal made in Lebanon was staying there longer than they should have, giving rise to other Iranian ans Syrian back 'freedom' fighter's like the Amal and Hizballah.
Like I said I'm not as articulate on this argument as weapon X so I'll cut it short here. But there's one last memory which remains, I've never come accross an arab who refused to take US dollars of me !.
I don't wish to offend any arab member's on the board here, and neither do i wish to sound like a jewish lover either but having been there and being Irish I can give my unbiased opinion.

Btw, I've also been on the receiving end of Isreali shelling of Lebanon and on one trip there I lost 5 comrades to fighting from both side's.
