my dads 98' Durango (33k miles) is having problems lately... the rear left window won't open... and now today his shocks blew.... ack

is it worth to trade in for a new durange or a foreign SUV?

Well, thats the problem, you bought a Dodge. LOL, j/k
Durangos have always had little things go wrong with them. You want a great SUV, get the new Explorer. My bro bought a 96 off lease in 99 with 50,000 miles. Never had one problem with it, just when the tires were recalled, and Ford took care of that no porblem. He sold that one to my mom recently and bought a brand new 03 Eddie Bauer Explorer. Excellent truck, very sharp looking and beautiful on the inside. For all the shit people seem to like to talk about fords, they certainly seem to have some very, very good cars/trucks.

"only" 130K...........hahahahahaha!

toyotas and hondas and nissans are cheap to run for a long time.........but when they DO start breaking down, (and eventually they DO!) they cost you MUCH more than an american car for parts and labor charges.

You want quality , go BMW , made right here in Munich , they pioneered lots of reliablility testing (esp. in relation to engines). along with Mercedes their cars are the most copied and with good reason.

BMW reliability? yeah, like government efficiency........ i had bmw's that blew cylinder head gaskets, with sloppy shifting, gutless ZF automatic transmisssions that needed expensive rebilding at 88,000 miles, at more than twice the cost of an american transmission, overheating problems in traffic if i had the nerve to run the noisy but just barely adequate air conditioner, metallic paint tht faced to the primer within 6 years' time, not to mention the snide, arrogant "ze problem ez wif ze driver, not ze machine" dealer service departments......

lexus and infinity showed up BMW and MB for the overpriced, living on their past reputation mediocore cars they were.

My parents had an American car blow up on them as they were pulling it into the Dealer's lot as a trade in. They've stuck w/ Toyota and Nissan ever since, and I have a Toyota w/ 145K and no problems so far.

I liked my early eighties, GMC (got it with 150,000 mi....ended with 380,000 mi.)
----but----

My cousin has put 200,000 to 300,000mi on several Toyota trucks.
And he drives 'em like they're invincible.

I ended up getting one and now have about 110,000 on mine. Never been in the shop.

What hapened to American designers. They used to design beautiful cars in the 60's and 70's and now they design boring shitboxes.

I disagree completely. There are many beautiful American cars currently, and more to come in the very near future.

I'm pretty disapointed myself.

I thought about getting a full size truck, but Chevy goes and puts that nasty looking front end on their trucks because they have so many left over from those Avalanche things. WTF. U-G-L-Y.

Ah well. My Toyota should last through several of thier body style changes..lol.
