Surgeons reattached a Taiwanese veterinarian's forearm today after a 200-kilogram Nile crocodile chomped it off and colleagues recovered the limb from the reptile's mouth.
The male crocodile severed Chang Po-yu's forearm at the Shaoshan Zoo in the southern city of Kaohsiung yesterday when the veterinarian tried to retrieve a tranquiliser dart from the reptile's hide so he could give it medication, zoo officials said.
The forearm was reattached following seven hours of surgery today.
The Liberty Times newspaper said Chang failed to notice that the crocodile was not fully anaesthetised when he stuck his arm through an iron rail to medicate it.
As Chang was rushed to the hospital yesterday, a zoo worker shot two bullets at the crocodile's neck to retrieve the forearm, Chen Po-tsun, a zoo official, said.
"The crocodile was unharmed as we didn't find any bullet holes on its hide," Chen said. "It probably was shocked and opened its mouth to let go of the limb."
The 17-year-old reptile is one of a pair of Nile crocodiles kept by the zoo.
Known as a man-eater because of its voracious nature, the crocodile is listed as an endangered species, and is rapidly disappearing from its native African habitat.
Chen said the zoo bought the crocodile 10 years ago from a local resident who had kept it as a pet.

I would cut the fuckers head off and frame it

Wow. Well, that is pretty unfortunate. No need to kill the crocodile. It was just being a croc. They just messed up and paid a heavy price.

re-attatched? they can reattatch whole arms now? does it work still? wow, fucking science
It was just a forearm. Reattachment is much more difficult at the shoulder.

You guys actually feel sorry for the croc? LMAO. I'd kill that thing for sure. It's a vicious bastard.

My response was directed to YG saying to kill the animal. I realize that they didn't hurt it.

Of course had they needed to kill it to get the man's arm out, then the animal would have to be killed. Luckily that wasn't the case.

And biteme it isn't that I feel sorry for the croc, but killing a croc for biting is like killing a human for breathing. ;-)

Could not have said this better myself :-)

That's an animal that I'd like to wipe off the planet. Kind of like mosquitos and roaches.

It is very unlikely that you will encounter a crocodile in the United States other than in a zoo. I think you will be safe. ;-)

Bites off his arm BUT he was lucky they got it on time to put it back in place... they shouldn't have killed he croc.... No friggin way....

Thats what crocs do, He knew the danger in doing what he did...

I disagree. After it bit my arm off, it would become a personal thing between me and the croc. The croc would pay.

i wouldnt wanna kill the croc either, cause crocs are awesome...but everyone saying it was just being a croc - are you telling me you dont kill bugs? ever? or use purell? it kills 99.99% of bacteria, almost all of who do nothing wrong but try to chillax on your hand and be bacteria :(

those bugs aren't endangered species.

So, no I would not kill the croc unless I had someone handy to make me purses and shoes. :)
