Creatine and Striking Martial Arts

Who here uses creatine?

I'm specifically looking for people involved in striking arts - TKD, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, etc.

It's usefulness in grappling arts is quite obvious; I'm wondering about it's effectiveness for the striking arts.

Lets here your opinions, comments, experiences. :coffee:

i think the more intense your workouts are.. regardless of what type of workout.. you will notice a difference in recovery and in your output regardless of it being striking/grappling or even running/swimming..

get some CEE no bloat and far less cramping but if you havent used it before be ready if you cramp and dont pull a muscle cut the workout short if need be..

some things that help me w/ cramping are taking in a MIX of carbs pre workout and lots of water, gatorade, glycerol, more water

good luck

As far as I knew, the best way to remedy cramping was to make sure you drank more than enough water. I never stuck with creatine, though. I always forget to mix it into my day.

I took creatine and was in TKD. I liked it I had more stamina and not just cardiovascular stamina, but in my muscles as well. I could throw more kicks with my legs gettung tired as qiuickly. Also the obvious stregnth will help with stricking.

You must spread some Karma around before giving it to shamrock11 again.
--I have an IOU for K, Shamrock11 :)

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I've been taking creatine for about a month now while training in TKD; I'm well versed in it's useage for resistance training, but I thought I'd give it a try for TKD.

I have noticed a fairly significant difference in my endurance and percieved fatigue...I just wanted to hear from others that may be in my shoes, also. :coffee:

info from there site:
PureCEE uses the finest and purest Creatine Ethyl Ester HCL. PureCEE Creatine ethyl ester is a breakthrough in creatine supplementation. Esterification of amino pro-drugs similar to creatine has greatly increased their bioavailability and increased the cellular uptake of the pure parent compound. This is exactly what adding the ethyl ester group to creatine has done.

In the most basic of terms with PureCEE you get a creatine without byproducts, without potentially unhealthy metabolites and greater amounts of creatine actually in the muscle cells.

One of the main issues with creatine monohydrate is that in the gut it is metabolized into creatnine and several other less friendly metabolites. These compounds cause stomach bloating, extracellular water retention (subcutaneous bloating) and put strain on the kidneys and liver. By the time that creatine monohydrate enters the blood plasma, especially in those that are “non-responders” there is not a great percentage of pure creatine left.

The esterification of creatine, in this case creatine ethyl ester, leads to rapid uptake because of its greater lipid solubility which allows it to pass more freely into the blood stream. Esterification also protects it from being prematurely cleaved and thus broken down into the unhealthy and completely without benefit metabolites mentioned above.

Think of it like a “fast pass” at a theme park, making sure that the creatine quickly and safely gets to the muscle cell.

Who will benefit from using PureCEE? Everyone will benefit. People that respond to monohydrate will still get better effects, without the bloating and stomach discomfort and with a much lower dose.
So called “Non-responders” will get what regular creatine supplements promised but never delivered. And of course, they will get the benefits without the sides that so commonly accompany creatine use in a convenient capsule form.

What have you noted ? I need help in this Area as well .

I just use 5g/day, usually post-workout. No loading dose, and just plain 'ol creatine monohydrate.

If you've used creatine when weight training, or read about it, then you'll know what it does and how it works; because tae kwon do involves almost full-out extertion (at least for me) while sparring, and muscle fatigue plays a major factor, I thought I'd give it a try.

I can't comment on CEE; monohydrate works just fine for me, but I've heard good things about CEE. No studies that I've found on it yet, though, so it may just be expensive creatine.

Well, your best bet is to give it a try yourself. :)
