Necrotizing Fasciitis is a rare but extremely dangerous pathogen. I have personal experience with this. Visited a friend in the hospital who got a scratch on his elbow while mountainbiking. 8 hours later he was surgery for compartmental syndrome caused by the infection and nearly lost his arm. Not saying this is what the guy in this thread had, but the notion that a disease takes days to progress to the point of being life threatening is incorrect.
