Contrast showers for active recovery

I did some reading on this today and apparently it's a good form of active recovery. I decided to give it a whirl of 2 mins hot alternating with 30 seconds of cold. I did 3 cycles.

Holy shit. When the cold water kicks in... man, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Those 30 seconds feel like an eternity... but man, I'll tell you what, I feel pretty awesome now. I might have to throw a couple of these in every week.

Anyone else ever try these?
 
I'm trying it from time to time

In my gym the cold water is not that cold but at home it is so cold that I'm wondering if it's not bad for the heart (I can feel it at full speed)
 
Yeah I have them whenever my stupi girlfriend decides to creep in and brush her teeth!!!

Actually, used to do it after rugby - no apparent reason other than I though it made me tougher. It sound abit like when Scandinavians get out of the sauna and go roll in the snow.
 
Haha, when I got hit with the first blast of cold water I wondered what the heck I was thinking as I stood there in the shower hopping around and cursing like an idiot....but I stuck it out and I think it was worth it in the end.
