Constant Aching Pain in Knee?

bran987

New member
For the past 2 days I've had a pain in my left knee.

It's NOT a sharp pain, it just aches. And I don't know how to describe it but it sounds kind of.... rubbery when I move it around slow, like it doesn't have enough "lube" inside, you can feel it just not moving as smooth. My other knee has no feeling like that it's just totally smooth like normal.

Is it tendinitis or something? I've begun doing cardio by walking on an incline (5 degrees or so) as fast as I can for 30 minutes over the past 3 weeks. Could it be from this?

It just, ACHES! Anyone have this?

First off, 2 days is nothing. Give it a week and come see me.

Having said that, have you been doing anything different that has put pressure on your knee? Running? Running on a hard surface? Running in old running shoes? Heavier or more intense squats than usual? Any acute injury in the past or recently?

(remember, I called the lymph node issue correct as well)

well I haven't been squatting but I did heavier leg presses than I've ever done before last week (like 7 plates on each side), but I didn't "feel" anything pop or hurt or anything while I did them. I've been doing the walking like I said above on an incline for about 25 minutes each day on the treadmill then running for the last 5 minutes or so also on treadmill).

I did have really old gym shoes but I just got a new pair of New Balances last week because I was starting cardio and I wanted good shoes.

No previous knee injuries ever. Yep, you were right about the lymph node.

it could be a slightly strained tendon or ligament. I say slightly because it was bad you would know it. When that happens the tend/liga swells slightly which will account for the extra "drag" you feel when moving around. Take some ibuprofen for the swelling and just keep away from leg training until you feel better.

That's the way mine started out a few years back. No specific injury but definite ache. . .came and went for a few years. Then, last summer I was mowing the lawn and I ran over a bees nest (bald-faced hornets. . .aggressive little bastards). . .in my haste to extract myself from an increasingly painful situation, I stepped in a hole as I was rocketing across my yard. . .no pain (other than the goddamn bee stings) or popping but a couple of days later, me knee started to ache worse than usual. . .as the summer went on it got progressively worse until last Labor Day when it was stiff as a board and hurt like a mofo. Had some MRI's and got scoped for a bucket tear in my meniscus but, while the doctor was in there, he took a bunch of pics. I'm 41 yoa and I basically have no articular cartilage left on my femur or patella. . .I need new knees. :worried: If the pain persists, get it checked by a good ortho.

How old are you??

give it a week's rest and see if the pain goes away. I bet it is just soreness from the heavier than usual leg presses.

Dull not Sharp?
No clicking, popping or it hanging up when you move it ?
Constant ache vs it hurts when you walk on it ?

I'm guessing inflammation due to straining it..

NSAIDS, Ice and Rest is my RX..

Thanks guys, from what you all describe it just sounds like I strained it. Appreciate the peace of mind.

so are stiff legged deadlifts OK to do while I'm recovering? I'm guessing I should cut out the cardio as well even though it's just walking uphill?

thanks bran.

I'd cut out anything that puts any pressure on the knee. Just for a few days until the pain is gone.

Incline walk puts quite a bit of strain on your knees even though it looks mild.
Try going with the eliptical set on a low angle if you need cardio.
I would hold off on the weighted lifting leg wise for a week.

But then again, I'm an old fart.

SLDL should be alright but I'm not 100% sure. Just don't do any leg movements that involve the pushing with legs.

Uphill walking should be alright because it's low impact cardio. Try an EFX machine.

Glucosamine and chondroitin wouldn't hurt.

Great idea. Thanks again.
