Your comment on the right to bear arms is interesting. Are you saying that this incident changed your views concerning guns or did you always feel that way?
During university, my political views were pretty far left. Go figure.
After reading some posts here, educating myself on historical gov attempts to disarm the populace to reduce civilian resistance against unfavourable governance (Germany pre ww2 ect) and taking stock of what’s going on today, my opinion on gun control/abolition has shifted from near total support to moderate dissent.
As far as today goes, it was the first real time I wished I had a gun. I’m not a violent person at all. Fairly caring and good-natured. Rarely go looking for trouble. But today I felt genuinely threatened. As I said, a friend of mine worked as a bouncer in a club downtown in Toronto and was killed by a guy who was less than 160 pounds. I hear allot about young thugs, both black and white, although most are black, murdering people with guns at Toronto area clubs.
What kind of defence can I offer against that? If killing to some people is that random and indiscriminate as to pop two caps in somebody’s chest because they asked you two times to stop smoking weed in a club, then how can I ensure my own personal security or those I care about besides brandishing a firearm?
Walk away is an option.
But I was thinking, what if these dudes looked for me and found me before I left. And what if the excessive numbers of cops present that day weren’t there, as one of the waitress said it was highly unusually for so many cops to be around that time of year?
What would have happened then?
My fate would’ve been in their hands. I would rather do everything in my power to control my own fate than have some two-bit skid mark make that decision for me.
I don’t think God has a problem with justifiable homicide but im not sure about Canadian law...
Short answer to your question. yea man, it did. I wish Canadian law allowed persons having no criminal record to carry personal handguns.
