US universities are a joke.

The hardest part is getting accepted via the SAT and ACT.

That is why a 3.5GPA from a Canadian university is the equivalent of a 4.0GPA from an American university.

interesting, does this apply to Harvard too ?

LOL -- I remember my last semester in school. I took 3 classes, and went to maybe 10% of them. Rest of the time, I just showed up to turn in papers and write exams. Got low B's in each one. :lmao:

I loved university, but hated going to class. :)

I would think it would especially apply to Harvard.

One would have to be pretty dumb to spend 20 grand a semester on an "education" he could have gotten elsewhere for 10x less. I actually have more respect for someone who, given the choice between an "elite" school and a "normal" school would choose the normal school.

I took classes at Harvard (and so have a couple of my friends that attended Canadian Universities) and they all came to the same conclusion.

It is like Americans are being rewarded for just being accepted.

Does that have anything to do with the fact that you are one of those people you described in this quote...LOL

Younger I wanted to go there just like everyone cause I thought it would basically get me the "big job". But damn at 30k a year, compared to 3k here at McGill...... hummm

2Thick,

Not really. I have a friend who is very book-smart and could have easily gone to one of those fancy-schmancy schools. He decided to go to the University of Florida instead. Though I think that was a dumbass decision too, it was better than wasting his money at some other school.

I have another friend who went to Harvard though and I just laughed when I learned that my 4 (acutally 3) years tuition would cost less than one of my friend's semesters... and that I had acquired the same practical knowledge in the same time frame (computer science).

The University system is, next to the Federal Government, the biggest fraud ever conceived.

McGill will land you a great job as long as you graduate from the right faculty and you network.

Plus in the case of grad schools, McGill Med and McGill Law for under $4,ooo per year Canadian each per year. A McGill Doctor and/or lawyer is as prestigious as Harvard.

I agree with what you have to say for the most part (although big names universities will help with specific career paths).

It reminds me of an interesting theory I heard (on this board I think...maybe from Matt).

It basically states that the price of university is inflated high enough that the debt burden will prevent the children from rising above their middle class stature. But at the same time, the price of university is also low enough that most middle class people can attend.
