CKD and beer

If a CKD diet calls for under 20-30 grams of carbs in a day and I figure in a beer at say... 6 grams of carbs, making sure not to exceed that low carb limit, it would be safe to assume that I will not be thrown out of ketosis, correct???

Thanks. BJenious

No, it would not be safe to assume that because you're discounting the sugar alcohols.

Discounting sugars...yes. Which will throw of insuline levels?? But WILL THIS remove me from ketosis?? Im talking one beer a week here. I am a firm believer in putting muscle and nutrition before alcohol and drunkeness. However this is very difficult for me bartending at a night club for a living. My wadges, work, and social life revolve around it so i am essentially wondering if cutting loose once a week or, on the weekend carb up will hinder the hard dieting I am doing during the week.

Thanks, BJenious.

Yes it will remove you from ketosis. If you have to have beer once a week, keep it for your carb up. But remember, consuming alcohol will affect your results. So if you can handle going without it, do it, you will see much better results. You have to remember that you are trying to cut up, so some things are going to have to be sacrificed.

Yes, it WILL remove you from Ketosis. EVEN one beer. If you want to have the beer then do not do a ketonic diet, it's NOT a feasible combination. You will end up GAINING fat because of the increased blood sugar levels and spikes, so the dietary fat you consume will be stored a FAT.

Mr. X.......

Would a drink or two on my carb up day be acceptable, or would I again be hindering my dieting and making the CKD worthless??

Thanks, BJenious

I would say NO!, but if you have to have a drink it might hinder how fast you get back into Ketosis. Maybe one glass of wine, but overall I just don't think drinking and ketosis mix.

Is there any diet out there where I can burn unwanted fat and have the occasional drink??? Based on the information posted, yielding the most benefits from the CKD would entail not drinking period. I know you have to be a freak to look like one, and moderation is a must, but as stated in an earlier post I tend bar for a living and am a thrid year college student. I love having a social beer or cocktail now and again but if this practice does not mix i will have to drop the CKD. Essentailly I am 99% dedicated to this diet, the 1% being the occasional cocktail. If this diet does not allow for the little margin of error then i should not be on it because i am not perfect. Given my situation is there any other fat burning diet that anyone could suggest that will allow the occasional social coctail??? My stats are as follows; 6'1" 195lbs 8-9% body fat.

Thanks BJenious

I'm a big proponent of the well balanced 40% protein/30% carbs/30% fat, it's probably 2nd best CKD being 1st. Plus, it's easy to follow. I love the well balanced diet.

This is no doubt a classic, but how are the fat burning proprieties? Will I be able to shed a little B/F and spare muscle over the next few months?

If you do everything right, add cardio and weights; sure, you'll drop some body fat and preserve muscle tissue.
