I was less than a month old when this happened. What a horror it must have been for that teacher's students to watch her death live.

Conscious? How? The concussion from that booster exploding had to have knocked the fucking shit out the shuttle.
The booster didnt explode. It disintegrated.
They found evidence that they drastically tried to "steer" the shuttle and regain power after it fell apart.

I was watching the live broadcast of the launch at home. That's when space launches were still the sort of event that you didn't really want to miss, not like the routine spaceport departures and arrivals of today.

If that wasn't bad enough - it just happend again a few years back in case people already forgot.
Shuttle program was good, but way too dangerous and unstable. Needs to be revamped using today's modern technology.

The shuttle program has been ended I believe. And it's being redone from the ground up. I guess NASA does read EF and my posts. Yeah 4 me.

The O-ring failure caused a breach in the SRB joint it sealed, allowing pressurized hot gas from within the solid rocket motor to reach the outside and impinge upon the adjacent SRB attachment hardware and external fuel tank.

I was home that morning, and hadn't had any news on... I called into work to see if I was going in for the afternoon, and the boss told me to turn the TV on. At first, I thought it was a hoax or something, then when I saw the serious and stately KTLA-Los Angeles newsman Hal Fishman sitting with his hair all messed up; tie crooked, and nearly on the brink of tears, I knew it was real.
