Chael Sonnen is a stud!

lol....omg that was close....fuckin politician almost beating Silva bad for the sport

Holy shit. I saw highlights he was killing Silva.
I thought this was gonna be an exhibition match, the other way.
Would like to see the replay, anybody got links?
Holy shit. I thought Sonnen would lose to the other contender that was making his way back to the rematch with Silva, however he beat him in his last match, but the highlights I saw, he was kicking the shit out of silva.
Matchups... it always ends up being matchups always ends up being an x factor that can be hard to predict at times.

His demise was his aggressiveness.

In the 5th round he gave up side control pursuing the mount.

It's not in Chael's nature and it wouldn't have been popular with the crowd but he should have laid and prayed.

At least now I think Anderson isn't invincible. In a rematch I'm still note sure Chael would beat him.

Would like to see Vitor get a shot before the rematch.

I wanted Sonnen to do what he did last night until I heard the day before he was tooling on the Nogueira's. Now I just want Dana to get Mousassi into the UFC so he can assrape both of them or send Anderson up to LH so that shogun can bitchstroke him.

Credit to Sonnen though...he did "exactly" what he was saying he was going to do.

politician? Your not a politician if you back your shit up. Silva took a beating for 23.5 minutes, hes lucky Chael lost focus and got caught

Sonnen just had a successful political campaign and he won locally I believe....not sure where, but he won a political campaign....

did not think that was possible, he just owned him the entire fight, and all he had to do was not get submitted. I guess much easier said then done. It's not like all he had to do was box, his strategy was keep bringing it, and he did not have the option to just sit back on defense.

Still, I wonder if there will be a rematch.
thanx Pick.

did silva just get complacent?

I don't think so. He has always been relaxed. His relaxed demeanor, leads to his sinewy strikes, devastating knees, and submission prowess.

I think it was simply a matchup issue.
Chael has excellent hand speed, real 'fighting' strength and could not be pushed around, and his wrestling skills and ability to take Anderson down at will was what led to this massive beat down.

I have no clue if in a rematch the same would happyen.
They say it's always dumb to bet on a different outcome in a rematch cause the same thing always happens, however i dunno in this case.

i dunno.. he absolutely sucked on the ground, all he did was lay there. i saw plenty of chances for sub attempts. and i think he only made one real attempt. plus there was zero takedown defense. he's always been cocky and i think this time he let it affect his game. maybe this knocked some sense into him.

of course there's going to be a rematch...and it'll be an immediate one. No way Dana passes this up...way too much money. And not too sure about the same outcome. For whatever reason I can't figure...Sonnen was able to do what Henderson couldn't and last I checked Sonnen wasn't in Hendo's league when he was in his prime. So I dunno...maybe anderson is getting fucked up with the weight swings. He should pick a weight division and stick with it. If there's nothing left for him at 185 just give the belt up and move on.

im not really a fan of silva but i respect his talent. i think with fewer opportunities, sonnen wont fair any better than he did in this first fight.

Could be a roy jones weight thing.
I don't think it is.
Overlooked Sonnen, and the matchup was in his favor IMO.
Still in a rematch, I agree, no clue what would happen.

he claims he was hurt and was advised not to fight

it's not hard to look bad on the ground or seem to lack take down defense when you're up against a wrestler with these creds:

He was an NCAA Division I All-American wrestler at the University of Oregon, two-time University National Champion in Greco Roman, and a US Olympic team alternate.

since when was wrestling creds a factor in any of his previous fights (hendo?)

if he was legit injured, i can understand that.. but who knows if thats hype or not.

I think Hendo was a little past his prime when he fought Anderson and the fight still wasn't a walk in the park for Silva.

The general consensus was that Chael would take him down.

I don't know if Anderson was injured or not, but he wasn't injured to the point that he couldn't pull off a sub in the 5th round after getting beat up to that point.

Also, Chael did say in his post fight interview that he has never been kicked that hard before.

Sonnen is a stud. I'm still amazed how easy he took Silva down.
I also did not know he had that much merit as a collegiate wrestler.

He doesn't look weight room strong, however his fight durability is unreal.
I mean the simplicity of his game plan, of constant pressure, take down, ground and pound was flawless.
I dunno, it's like I'm thinking that in a rematch, the same would happen, due to the usual law of rematches.

However, the dilemma that gives some of us pause, is that it is Anderson Silva. I've got that whisper of a thought that that night was not a fluke, but would not happen again.

Hard to predict.

Depending on which Vitor shows up ... that could be very interesting.

just sayin'

One thing people need to come to grips with is Anderson still won. Why? He's better. Coming close isn't good enough. In every fight there has to be a winner and loser. Another thing is the fight was already in Sonnen's favor, seeing Anderson wasnt active, he was recovering from injury. Sonnen was very active, been training, and was already in shape. No one likes to mention that though.

hell yeah if the old machine gun belfort shows up it's over.....fuck I miss that guy.

I think silva will win this fight 2.
Not a Silva fan, just thinking he would win.
Could be wrong though, seeing belfort's boxing skills, quickness, and strength.

I like Victor but he dosen't always show up and gives his all. All that talent but lacks heart. No wonder why he didn't stick with boxing, you need to have a ton of heart. When things get hard you can't just fall apart, you'll get hurt bad like that.

I had no idea he tried to professionally box.
Last time I watched him fight was when they called the fight off, cause of him getting poked in the eye vs Ortiz, I think.
Way back in the day.
Have not seen him since.

He's only had one professional boxing fight in his native country. He never fought again.

not that night he wasn't. He's still the overall better fighter cause he's been untouchable for years. If they fight again and Sonnen beats him from corner to corner but get's caught again late in the fight....I would suggest that Anderson is maybe over the hill if he has to rely on catching dudes who are beating the crap out of him. I get a win is a win.....but if this fight happens again and the same shit goes down, you could make a case that Sonnen is now the better fighter but still has some weaknesses like triangle defense. You can't sit there and watch a guy get the shit beaten out of him for 5 rounds and win on late triangles and call him the "better fighter". Not if it happens repeatedly.

Don't hate. When he loses then we can put the guy down. All he keeps doing is winning. He's a winner. The end result is what matters. Over coming hard situation and coming back to win is what champions do. If you keep fighting good fighter's you will not always look good. Peole just don't like Anderson cause of his style and want him to lose. Many frowned upon his win. He dosen't fight like your average MMA figher.

One thing I must give Sonnen credit for is he's willing to take chances and is always giving action. Most wrestlers don't fight like that. Atleast he shows up to fight and just not lay on you the whole night. He gots my respect.

I listened to him on ESPN MMA.
He's got a good balance of being straight forward, simplicity, and he was confident yet respectful, and pleasantly candid about the Anderson's demeanor during the fight.
He said Anderson more or less conceded verbally during the 3rd round that he wanted out of that fight, but would not concede by letting Chael choke him out.

The same type of shit talking bout Silva during the fight, which I did not see, did not occur, but a respect, yet eagerness to have another shot.
He gets mad respect from me. He was considering attempting to try out for the olympic boxing team before he settled on attempting wrestling instead. His stand up skills make sense now.

and my grandmother wants to fly jets

20/20 vision at 70 is awesome. What's her secret?

LOL, I agree. His words, Pick. He said his dad and him were seriously considering this instead of wrestling.

I hear you, and agree, however, horse's mouth.

I hear ya, bro

Just cuz he excelled at wrestling doesn't mean he would have become world class in boxing (or water polo)

But you don't get to be one of the elite without confidence

Hey Ariel, did you see the Jean Pascal fight yesterday on HBO? Chad got robbed of maybe stopping Jean. Anayway, he's now holds the number one belt at light heavy being the ring magazine belt.
