CASPER the Unfriendly Ghost

Rick, if you need Media Allies talk to SofaGeorge, or I can... he is in tight with several news stations and shows like Dateline... he could probably get you a spot on there... where you get to talk for like 30 minutes or something.

thanks, rick! that's what i was getting at. just trying to further enlighten others on the political process. i could not have explained it any better if i tried!

I agree that choosing to view the glass as half full is a chimera for admitting our current state of Gov is less than ideal (to put it nicely).

However, I'd take exception to your idea, Zyg, of putting voting booths on street corners in an attempt at a true democracy. I'm almost as afraid of the average U.S. citizen as I am of our Gov. Talk about uneducated sheep - how could our present Gov evolve other than from the complacency of a well fed herd of herefords?

To put the power of a direct vote into the hands of robots with minds so pliable they seem like silly putty - now that's a scary thought! Imagine media conglomerates spoon feeding the issues to the masses in a way that the outcome is predetermined. No thanks; we'd likely vote ourselves out of existence in a unification effort towards a U.N. "global community".

6 of one half dozen of the other. How does it differ from the current decision makers who chose whats best for us based on who lines their pocket with the most $$$ or can scratch a given itch? In issues of many things that affect us as "average" american citizens, the typical lawmaker is just as misinformed and I would wager unconcerned with many issues that we deem important. Prohormones for example affect a realativly small population of the country and I would bet that those voting on these issues know very little about it. Additionally most know even less about steroids and are, to coin your phrase, spoon fed specifics on these issues and in turn make a biased decision. Modern sports makes enough money where I think they alone should be responsible for policing their given members, however it has become an issue that our government has become intimately involved in with seemingly little concern for facts and definatly do not care about balancing their decision on the matter with other decisions they have made(ie tabacco is legal, steroids are not).

Excellent point. If left up to citizens to democratically vote on issues in matters such as this (ones that would likely not make the radar of national news), only those with a vested interest would probably bother going to a voting booth. In this case, I would guess it to be a slam dunk in favor of keeping prohormones legal, and, for that matter, re-legalizing AS. We'd just have to "energize the base" via the boards.

So..hell yeah, break out the prohormone referendums!

Thats in essence what I was trying to get at, by putting the power into the hands of the people, many would deem many issues not important enough to vote on while those that did would vote. Issues could be voted on independantly instead of all or nothing. If a voting day comes all issues could be listed and voted on as the voter see's fit, if they have issues that do not concern them they will likely blow over and not vote. Then the voting will come down to those that actually have an interest and the votes on a given item would predominatly come from those who not only view it important but have some knowledge of the issue. Obviously something that wouldnt happen overnight, but as things sit now I feel totally helpless when it comes to the direction of our government and giving the power back to the individual would likely bring about a lot more voter involvement.
