Cardio Post Workout?

SteR

New member
Just wondering whether there's anything wrong with doing my cardio after my weight training? I ain't a morning person and normally can't get up to do cardio so would it be ok to say move my 4 AM sessions to after my workouts and still make gains (they only last 40 mins low intensity) or will I have to do am cardio? bear in mind im an endo :D

it really depends on your goals.
is your main goal to burn fat or put to put on muscle?
or maybe you just wanna maintain?

If you willing to spare a little muscle, I think its the ideal time for cardio as far as fat burning goes. I like to lift, hit my PW shake, and then do 5-10 Mins of Elliptical as a cool down but also to burn some fat.

though some will disagree, i (and the majority of knowledgable experts) believe that cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach is the best way to shed fat. pop 50mg of efedrine and a cup of coffee when you awake and 30 minutes later begin your cardio session and you will burn more fat than you can think. remember though that you WILL sacrifice muscle. the ratio of fat to muscle loss while on a serious cutting phase and a strict diet in athletes who do not take anabolic steroids is in my estimate
2:1. so if you lose a total of 9 pounds lets say, 6 of that will be fat and 3 pounds is muscle.

the only way to avoid losing muscle is to add some anabolic, in which case you may actually be able to lose fat and ADD muscle.
yes! ADD MUSCLE.

proper knowledge in nutrition and training is a pre-requisite. you would also have to know which anabolics to use specifically for that goal.

Some people say Am cardio, some say it doesn't matter. Tho i don't know MS (a person who posts on this board) personally to say wether she's telling the truth or not (tho' I do believer her ) she never does AM cardio and believes in the wa of overall calorie expenditure. This is what she has to say on AM cardio...

"This is one of those topics that is really made a LOT more complicated than it needs to be. The only time it MIGHT be important to do cardio FTITM is if you are seveerly insulin resistant, but even in this condition the most important thing is to get off your butt and burn some calories sometime during the day. The 'Myth' of the fat-burning concept is exemplified by women....in general women burn a higher percentage of fat for energy at any time of day and any time of month compared to men, yet you would hardly say that women are leaner than men!!! IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER for most individuals when they exercise, as long as they ARE exercisng AND creating a caloric deficit. It has nothing to do with which fuel or fuel ratio you burn while exercising. It's the metabolic environment you create over weeks and months that changes your body composition"

She also cuts for no more than 12 weeks, from 16-18%bf down to 7-8% bf. and also has regular high carb refeeds.

I also sugest reading this interview with Lyle McDonald on the subject.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just stick to doing it post lifting 'cause I seriously can't stick to getting up first thing in the morning and running. Plus I actually enjoy doing cardio post lifting so I guess i'll stick to it, cheers for the help though

It's funny how people can be so different. I for one am ADDICTED to AM cardio. Seriously. I can't wake up and be alert without it. For me, nothing beats starting my day with a badass endorphin rush.

But do whatever works for you bro... to each his own...

well said..

short diet plans may work for the short run, but if a change in body composition is what you're after then you must realize that permenant physical change requres permenant dietary and training routines.

now..
you may get awesome results from a strict 2 month routine but if after those 2 months you let go of the accelerator you will rebound back very quickly. SET POINTS.

to most of us who are not genetically gifted it is harder to retain low body fats and lean physiques without a super disciplined and strict diet plan and training routine.

back to the main topic though...
a.m cardio is in my opinion the most effective way to burn fat. but it is also the quickest way to burn muscle. unless you're on some anabolic compound you will burn fat to muscle in the ration of 2:1.
so for every 3 pounds of weight loss expect 1 pound muscle loss.
now those are not exact figures but from the few personal experiments that i and some brothers conducted.

i use anabolics during cutting cycles only as that extra cardio is much much too catabolic. funny enough though, i've never used steroids while bulking. i believe adding muscle should come naturally. again, using steroids to spare muscle while on cutting phases is the smartest and safest use of the compounds in my opinion.

ciao my friends.
