Cardio on empty stomach or not ?

Ive been doing early morning cardio on an empty stomach for 8 months now. I prefer in that it gets the workout out of the way, and I tend to have more energy by the time I get to work for the day. although, I get tired early in the evening which can be a downer. Im usually yawning by 9pm./

read what this cardio article says about doing cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, it may change the way you think about it for the rest of your life...

I don't agree with alot of the statements in this article. Specifically the paragraph on "cardio on empty stomach". I understand that food in the morning starts your metabolism, but if you burn 700-1000 calories on an empty stomach without using much glycogen - you are burning alot of fat through that excercise. Especially if your on a high protein low carb diet. Just eat right afterwards then start your day...

I read this article and I am not sure I agree with it all. How many of you guys see huge bodybuilders 250lb and up sprinting at top speed? I just don't think it's a safe alternative for big boys to the longer slow sessions most of us are familiar with.

I'd like to give it a try but I know I will screw up my knees with sprinting. I know that when I do my "fat burning" at the moderate pace for 30 minutes 3x a week that I am quite happy with my level of leanness.

Since I'm also using Bill Star's 5-5-5 intermediate training program I don't think that my knees could take sprinting at full speed after squatting 3x a week.

Agreed..... Use a stationary bike. Try HIIT for 8 weeks, and you'll be amazed.

It depends on how intense of a cardio session you are going for.If you keep it moderate then ive found that an empty stamoch is better. But,if the workout is to strenuous, then you may not have the energy to give it 90 or 100 pecent.Which would kind of defete the purpose.

Interesting discussion. My entire lower body is naturally heavily muscled and I dont think I gain fat with particular ease, so I suppose I'm closest to a meso. Perhaps I'll give this a try.

I HATE YOU!

I think that I gained two pounds for each time I even read the word fat...sheesh..fuC&*ng genetics -

Modern research does not support the claim that cardio workout on an empty stomach is better. Measured over 24 hours there were now increase of fat loss compared to cardio workout after a meal. This is due to many reasons, among others your glucose storage is not depleted after just one night sleep (7-9 hours) it takes more/longer.

I did that once before and will never do it again especially as an athlete. I was never able to train at my full potential, made me feel like shiiit and all it did was destroyed my muscle for fuel. Well I'm guessing it all depends on what your really trying to aim for or the type of schedule you have. I'm not a firm believer that it will help you lose weight because you end up eating what you just burn and the rest of the day your just going too be fatigue to stay active, which is the most important part of losing weight.
