Car impounded, No where to be found

This weekend my cousins car got impounded at the sting on Telegraph. (a road in MI that everybody races on)

I just got off the phone with him and this is what he said. The police station gave him 4 numbers. 3 numbers where for the impound yards that it could be at, and the 4th is some number that can find every car that has been impounded.

He has called all of them and his car is NO WHERE to be found. His mom and him are flipping out right now. His mom is about to report it stolen.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening before. I wonder if a cop took it for a ride and it dissapeared.

Any ideas of what he should do? His car is a 99 Saleen Cobra.

This is how the night started and ended

Let me tell you that night SUCKED ASS. It started at like 1:15 or so. We were all standing at the corner and were just saying, it is real quiet, the cops have not been here in a while. So we decide to leave,and as soon as we get to the intersection to leave, the cops surround us and start yelling, "Everyone turn off your cars, you are not going anywhere".
They took all of the drivers license from people who were driving there cars. Then they made us all turn around and follow the cops to the station (6th).What a clusterf*** that was.

To end it, I didnt get to leave until around 4:30 or so. Had to bail my cousin out of jail and they impounded his car.

To top it off, got an "improper start" ticket on my way home at about 4:45.

What a F*****g night.

I would report it stolen. Even if a cop has "borrowed" it to joy ride. It woud be sweet to see him get fucked.
