What do you guys have? cable, satellite or what? I got brighthouse cable for 3 months at $39.99, was wondering ho directv, dishnetworks and others are, what do you have?

Honestly, Im to the point that I think they ALL suck. Comcast/Cable has great Ondemand options, but I tend to not like their HD quality and their customer service and prices for equipment were terrible. DirecTV has great customer service, great HD quality and channel selection but they dont have real ONDEMAND it's all scheduled PPV options, some people have issues with weather but I dont have many issues unless its REAL REAL bad out. FIOS is way too expensive and I wasnt impressed with it at all. I used to sell DISH Network at one of my old jobs and their channel packages are garbage if you want any good channels you have to bump your package way up so all of the "we r cheap" bullshit goes right out the window. Im sticking with DirecTV for now.

Dish does have good customer service, but I had lots of angry customers when they tried to change their packages and things, apparently lots of people got hit with all kinds of charges for it, also had issues with local channels sometimes getting blocked out and black out on some channels for certain areas.
After dealing with lots of stuff with them while selling their product I dont think I could bring my self to ever try them out...but as I said, they all suck

TimeWarner cable is good around here.. free HD channels and tons of ondemand options.
directv sucks. you pay extra for HD and have to lock in for 2 years minimum. they keep running all those promos where you get all these channels for xyz price for ONE YEAR. It's a decent deal, but it's 50% off. Most people are too stupid to realize that after a year the price doubles per month.

Comcast, Fios, DirecTV and DISH all have contracts. Dish charges a $300+ cancellation fee that starts the week after install. All companies charge for HD unless you are getting the "basic HD" channels that most include for locals and such. My DirecTV bill is about 55$ with HD in 2 rooms and a 3rd box in another. Never had an issue. Comcast tried to charge me $500 for an HD box I never had but they were telling me I had and needed to return, service on certain channels ALWAYS broke up and pixilated, sound would randomly go out on some channels. DISH is the WORST for promotional prices and extra add-ons by far, I know, I sold them.

TimeWarner has free HD for all channels that offer HD, not just locals. It was over 100 channels last I knew.

Well then that is a good deal if you dont have to pay for a $400+ box. That would be real nice, I havent used them or seen their service so I can't comment on them, sounds good up front though.

it's $5 a month to rent a digital cable box, but most people had that before HD even blew up for ondemand and other shit.
high speed internet/premium cable combo runs a like 105 a month or something like that. around here that's the cheapest you can get unless you want to go DSL (which sucks)

Yeah, I have Verizon DSL and Home phone...Total for everything is in that ballpark, DirecTV gives us deals all the time anytime we call up and ask about new promos, they always give them to us.
Brighthouse is same as time warner in this area, I have like 200 channels for $39.99 for 3 months but then it jumps to like $65 a month.... I had directv in CR and they are complete tools, im guessing they a re different here of course.... I just hate contracts....

I dont understand the "fear/hate" of contracts. The companies give you a cheaper rate for a while if you commit to actually paying your bill. Same thing with cell phones, when I used to sell them people would come into the store, want a $600 smart phone for free with no contract, like it makes sense to discount something with no guaranteed income. You can normally get no contract setups, you just dont get any discounted pricing.

Although if you move, they will move and install the stuff at your new home for free and if you move to an area that they dont service, legally they have to terminate your contract at no cost to you.

In Dallas, I just have rabbit ears and over-the-air TV. But at the ranch in Ventura County, CA, there's a lousy signal over the air, so we're stuck with satellite. DirecTV. All I watch is news and sometimes Jay Leno, so I don't care about any other channels. Except sometimes on Saturday mornings, I'll turn VH1 classic on to 80s metal. But I wouldn't pay $40/month voluntarily, just for it.

Am having Direct TV installed as I type....
Dish Network is the worst! I had them about a year and a half ago when they were partnered w/att. The tech. damaged my home theater equip. which I made them ultimately buy, then I had the pleasure of having to shop for new equip. over the next year to get my system just right, AGAIN! After a 4 hour install the tech. also had the nerve to give me attitude enough to make me leave my office to come home and whoop his shit. He then just handed the remote to my then gf and said "here you go." and left. he also had the balls after I complained to call my office # himself and confront me about the damage and shoddy install. I remember asking him if he remembered seeing "that big dude in the pictures around my house? Now imagine who the fuck you are talking to!" Anywho, that call to my office lost him his job...Dish's customer service did not help this matter and really only escalated it. I liked their programming at first but they changed it big time after they implemented HD and omitted a lot of stuff I liked so I was more than happy to switch back to Insight. It sucked because I loved att's services but left due to Dish's crappy service and lineup. Att is now partnered with Direct in my area so I am going back because of this. (I am actually being kind in this novel.)
The package I am getting with Direct is great and will only increase after the first year by $12.00 which is still much cheaper than what I am paying for Insight AND I am getting way more for my money and BETTER HD quality.

They did something her ein FL and they closed the open waive/over the air signal so you either get cable, buy a $40 converter to get 10 shitty channels or have no TV....

I don't know about Florida in particular, but since June last year, all of the network channels are supposed to be broadcasting in the new signal. So you should get the same channels you got before (maybe on new numbers). The digital tuners are picky, and won't let you get a snowy picture like the NTSC system did. So if you don't have the antenna set just right, it'll skip over the imperfect channels and you'll think they aren't there.
There is a bunch of crap on there now too (Taiwanese simulcasting, live cameras pointed at a a vacant news stage, etc), on the new channels, but the regular ones are still there as far as I know. Dallas has NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, FOX, and several others, and in Ventura County, CA, there are actually more over-the-air channels now than before June '09.
I hate the box too, as I used to like to play with my old TVs with motorized rotary channel knobs and "click" remotes. Now they sit on Channel 3, and I can't Click-Klunk-Bang around to see what's on anymore
