It's worth checking out for sure. I'm not really in the market to buy another home, but if the price is right, and no one else bids than fuck it.
I'm not really "in the market", it was more like I've had my eye on that house for 20 years. Old retired couple lived there, and I knew that someday they'd either die or have to move to an assisted living situation. They moved to an assisted living place a few months ago, and the house sat empty until a FOR SALE sign finally went up a couple of weeks ago.
I called the agent as soon as the sign went up, got pre-approved for a mortgage, and she showed me the house the next day. I was sort of creeped out by the condition, and the old folks hadn't collected all their loose stuff yet. After she showed me the house, she told me that there were already two offers on the table, that's when I declined to make an offer because I wasn't going to get into a bidding war on a house that needs that much work.
My neighborhood has been somewhat immune to the recent housing crisis, values have not plummeted and houses sell fairly quickly.
Moving next door would have been stupidly easy, wouldn't even need to rent a van.
I'm not in a hurry to make a move on a house, but I couldn't let this one come on the market without at least investigating.
Hell yeah....times like these are when fortunes are made....
