Boiled Egg Shelling

Never really had this problem before...I'm not sure if it's the quality of the eggs I'm buying or what...

Anyways, in the morning I have been boiling 6 eggs while I get ready for work. It's easier that way b/c I can just set them in water and leave them unattended instead of having to hover over a frying pan and scrambling or frying them.

However I've had a hard time lately shelling them without the shell cracking into a million peices. Seems to me that I've never had this problem, just made a crack and slid my finger under the shell and usually the whole shell will peel off together.

I've tried shelling them while they're still warm and I've tried running them under cold water too. Any hints or tips that you guys know of? Maybe it's just the quality of the eggs like I mentioned

Chilling them for a while has worked well for me. After boiling, I stick them in the fridge for a few hours. I generally get back to them later the same day.

Try using lots of ice if you're in a rush.

When boiling them add some salt.....just several hefty sprinkles will do. this makes the "deshelling" process sooooo much better. Plus, when cracking them, start at each end rather than in the middle of the egg.

Good luck

Buy your eggs a couple days before you plan on boiling them.... If you happen to get really fresh eggs they can be much harder to peel. Not sure what salt in the water would do but..........

Also I find it easiest to tap the shell all the way around and crack it into little peices and then peel it all off. It should stay together because of the skin under the shell.

Or just run them under cold water right after removing them from the boiling water... you should be golden... :D

I always hit it on the inside of my sink and roll it all the way around to crack it, then each side slides off under running water. Then you can break the white apart and wash out the yolk. Bleh, yolks...

yup the same happens to me sometimes...rite after ur done boiling them put them in cold water for a little while then try....works for me.....later
