Blood Test Results - BUN and GFR

uptick

New member
Hi,
I just got my blood test results back and am concerned about kidney function:

BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) = 27 (reference range 7-23)
GFR 65

I'm on a high protein diet (1 gram per pound of body weight)
Creatine supplement 3 grams per day

Do you think I should be concerned and should cut back protein intake or creatine supplement?

Age 45
6 foot
185 pounds
12% BF
On TRT of 125mg Test Cyp per week

Thanks!

Creatine will mess up your levels if your taking it when you get tested. I'd stop for 2 weeks and retest.

That BUN data isn't far enough out of the reference range to be of concern. Even mild dehydration could easily cause that. If you had your blood draw done in the morning after some coffee, and not much water, it could quite easily cause that.

Now if you don't take any diuretics and you know for sure you'd drank plenty of water before the blood draw, you might want to get it checked again. If you never experience any kidney area tenderness and all your electrolytes levels were normal, your kidneys are probably doing just fine.

Thank you very much!!
I also had eaten lots of protein between 12 and 24 hours before the draw.
I fasted for 12 hours before draw without any food or water intake.
Could that have artificially raised it as well?
