Beware of the coming "Frankenstorm"

WASHINGTON (AP) — An unusual nasty mix of a hurricane and a winter storm that forecasters are now calling "Frankenstorm" is likely to blast most of the East Coast next week, focusing the worst of its weather mayhem around New York City and New Jersey.

Government forecasters on Thursday upped the odds of a major weather mess, now saying there's a 90 percent chance that the East will get steady gale-force winds, heavy rain, flooding and maybe snow starting Sunday and stretching past Halloween on Wednesday.

Meteorologists say it is likely to cause $1 billion in damage.

Any given hurricane doesn't collide with a winter storm though.

Not worried here in Arizona.

I'm more worried about the tax storm thats going to hit.

Weather's going to be nice here in So Cal. I think I'll take my kid to the SD safari park tomorrow.

No his goat is like a double muscle something or another. Pretty much the jay cutler of goats. It's awesome.

Probably because it's Halloween, but ya, super lame.

not only that, wasn't it "superstorm" last year or the year before? wasn't this epic apocalyptic maelstrom supposed to hit the east coast up around jersey? i remember playing on online PC game during that time with a dude who was in jersey and when he talked over coms you could hear the thunder so we were asking him about it...he was like "it's a thunderstorm" :whatever:

I don't know I'm watching the weather channel and it looks bad I live right in the center of where its going to hit people at Walmart were buying everything today even oil heaters and generators it was nuts

Might wash away all the black tar, assface

It's 90 degrees here today, and it's not even noon yet. No frankenstorms coming to San Diego. It is the beginning of fire season, so we'll all probably burn up in the next month.

My mom lives a little north of Philly and she said people are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. She said she reached for some batteries at the store this morning and some bish pushed her away and grabbed all she could get. I hate people.

It was probably Shirlz. She was out of fresh water and electricity for a long time during last years super storm.

Fucking sucks ass. 110 in the summer with 98% humidity lol I miss San Diego weather!

its set to hit THE MOST densely populated area in the nation...so thats a fairly ignorant statement

Yeah, but all of CT will just mosey down for some expensive coffee in their Stepford homes and look at magazines for new mink house shoes.

We don't have shit but sticks and dirt

and yeah...i would go postal...

Im pretty screwed with one tree in the yard...the rest have already been cut back
generator is set to go
truck and the brother in laws fuckis (focus) are fueled up--this because none of the gas stations around the area have generators so couldnt get fuel last time
chain saws have either new or sharpened chains..so were set to clear paths for downed trees this go around

gas for the cooktop is gtg
we haven't gone nuts but were in good shape for an extended power outage

and everyone is afraid of this happening again..like last yr

We had a fucked up freak ice storm in 95 and were without power for two weeks. In E Texas....noone knew wtf to do lol we used a propane fish fryer base and the fireplace to heat the house and kept it ventilated.

So you're irritated with the government and the media for more preparedness in the event of a large weather event??

You're right. That makes more sense.

In the case of katrina, which was decidedly tragic, local and federal government was warned well in advance the levees were in bad shape.
Make whatever political rant/slant of it what you will.

I know everyone here is concerned about the loss of power again because like last year we hit freezing temps at night. There were several deaths related to Storm Alfred last October and all were related to heat in some way or form (carbon monoxide/fire).
I can say with totally accuracy that literally every single power line was ripped down in my town and in towns on either side of me. Just not being able to get fuel or access cash (no banks or atms) was crippling.Local restaurants that had gas but not back up generators were literally cooking and giving away food so it didn't go to waste.

On a funny note, for that storm, my neighbors were absolutely amazed that my husband and I came outside with fresh hot coffee. It didn't occur to them to pour boiling water through their coffee maker..lol

I do not miss living in CT I lived near the casinos and it sucked last year. I move to mass and low ad behold I live right on the ocean now New England sucks.

Its simply a matter of "in my backyard" syndrome. Nobody gives a shit about it but if its on the eastern seaboard, uh oh we better take care of it.

yeah probably...to be fair the eastern seaboard is a big deal economically for the nation so I think this is where it gets alarmist

I know personally Im concerned and hopefully prepared...and a bit sad Im not on any emergency teams anymore (to help other peeps out) but I'm not freaked.
Theres one tree in my yard that may pose a problem for the service coming to my house..but theres nothing I can do about it before the storm...so screw it.

I'm not seeing a lot of panic locally...people are fueling up but being civil...grocery stores put out a lot of bottled water but no ones fighting over it..batteries are selling out at big box stores but again, no fighting over it...grocery stores seemed a normal amount of busy for a weekend...

I know coastal communities are evacuating but that's simply prudent because the buoys are registering high surges ahead of the storm and it looks like the swells will breach storm walls ..and people boarded up property along the coast but it hasn't been chaotic by any stretch.

I spent yesterday making sure all of my clients were all set with tree limbs/trees (not in my job description but screw it), making sure roofs that needed to be tarped were situated, materials were secure and in general asked if everyone was set with water, batteries, heat alternatives etc and told em to call if they had big probs because I could probably get to them and help if I could.

meh, we'll see what happens

^^^^. True gajillion of dollars move on the east coast everyday

right.....

something that never occurred to me either was the sub base...they sent their subs out from what I understand to have them ride it out at the bottom of the ocean.

They did my dad was stationed there before he retired and his friends all just went out over the past few days.

Eb has to pull in their dry docks to

Groton, new London will be a mess most likely

You must really like living there to have to deal with that. I don't think anyone could force me to live in an area where my house could get wiped out every year.

All joking aside, my thoughts and prayers will be with all who lives in the areas that are threatened by this, I too couldn't imagine living in those areas being born and raised in California, we just have the earthquakes that can decimate us at anytime but its the pros and cons of where we choose to live. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best...hopefully everyone can seek safety for their families...especially the children :(.

I was just watching the weather channel and they were showing the path of the storm.
It literally looks like it's going to land on my house! NOT JOKING, we are right in the middle of it.
I have my generator set up, extension cords run, food, water candles ,flashlights, extra gasoline , both vehicles filled up.
All I know is my TV better be working for the Walking Dead tonight or I'm going to lose my fucking mind having to wait another week!

grasshopper...charge laptop..and tether cell phone= enjoy walking dead "irregardless" of power status

other than that...good luck man..sincerely

Why?
The generator and the can are both full .
I have enough to run the generator for almost 48 hours straight.
Worse come to worse I have a hose.

because many people may fill the car with fuel, but a tree will keep it from moving as well as the garage falling on the car..

so a manual or a pump powered by an electric/battery drill is best for getting it out..

Well i didn't go to work today but the gym was open :)
The wind is starting to pick up a lil.
I crossed a couple streams on the way to the gym and they didn't look too bad yet.
We still have power and everything is pretty okay so far.

Hopefully this storm wipes Baltimore off the map. What a shit city

I could agree with that if most of my work wasn't there.
We are about to loose power.
There is a tree laying on the lines about 100 feet from my house.
happens in the same spot every time.
Emergency vehicles are there now.
They said the lines are smoking so get ready.
Wind is really starting to pick up now.
Shits getting a lil real.
Dogs could care less lol

When it gets really bad you should post pics or video if the storm, id love to see it (from afar lol)

Sorry but Baltimore is a POS

Landfall probably at Cape May in a couple hours ... hubby & I were there last weekend, glad we decided to go. Hope it wasn't a farewell tour :(

holy fuck so they weren't kidding about this storm. Fucking cars floating down the street in lower manhattan. We're even getting a shit ton of rain here in NE OH. That fucker was 800 miles wide. I heard today that pittsburgh might get part of the "actual" hurricane...wow, Pittsburgh. I sure hope Heinz field doens't do something crazy like sink into the river and the steelers don't have to like.....leave the NFL or something like that.

:lmao:

Ohhh look at us, we finally get a hurricane when the gulf gets slammed every other year.

Well, one thing that will be etched in my mind ... my husband's company is notorious for not closing except when a state of emergency has been declared. He was told to stay home yesterday and today. Malls all around us closed. Unprecedented considering there's no ice or snow.

Obviously we have power and internet, also cable, in addition to plenty of food, water, batteries, candles, flashlights, coolers and pet food ... unfortunately I have run out of both wine and vodka, which displays an unfortunate lack of foresight on my behalf.

Jersey shore and parts of Manhattan are pretty thoroughly fucked, a good portion of Atlantic city's boardwalk went bye-bye ... and they changed their minds and called my hubby in, now I don't know what to do with myself today, weather is still shitty out there.

coast of ct is fucked...theyre not letting anyone back into their homes

weird bands of power outages and siding/roofs ripped off homes

Southern mass last year Irene no power for five days

Sandy = all power on. No lost Internet and no flooding.

I feel bad for all my CT friends and family in Groton and new London though.

It was intense I still don't have power and NYC and jersey shore got fucked about 3 million people here in New York without power

That and 80+ homes burned to the ground in queens, NY
Lib is completely under water.
Power outages: electric lines on the road
Trees on houses, cars even people
Long island is fucked...
Subway system is fucked as well. Millions of people rely on it every day.
Airport is flooded
Market closed for 2 days
CT has been hit just as much

So SD..if you think it wont affect you, think again.

R there any lineman here working on the storm. It's cold as hell here in Pennsylvania, I Anit use to working in this cold as shit
