Bench press competition for me tomorrow...

....and I'm not ready. This should be interesting. I've been slacking at the gym since the beginning of March basically. I haven't lifted in over a week now, and I trained one body part about every 9 or 10 days since the beginning of March.

My AC joint hurts like hell too. Always this pain in my left shoulder. Plus, my 21st is tomorrow and I really don't know how committed to it I will be.

But for some reason, with all this going wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if I pull a pretty good lift out of nowhere. That's all my life has been these past few months. I've surprised myself in school and socially. The material has been harder, but it's been coming to me easier than expected, I think I'm getting smarter. I got an internship with UBS for this summer and I am doing research for the government as well. Shit has just been happening for me so I surprisingly feel good about it. So basically, my mind is clear and I am confident.

But this has happened before workouts for me too. Felt great, couldn't get shit.

We'll see and I will let you all know how I do. Last year I was in the 240lb. weight class and I'm now in the 190 weight class. I can do about 85% of the weight this year that I could do last year.

oh yes. many, many, many times. was prolly an addict, by todays standards. not a "i'll suck your dick" addict, but a get stripper gf to give me her take thus far in the night to get Marco to give me an teener. and i just don't like seeing younger guys do that shit. road to nowhere....although you can argue that the path of excess leads to the palace of wisdom....

eatbig- if you need any advice, let me know. I've competed enough times to have a few tricks up my sleeve. :)

and... good luck!! don't be nervous, just have fun. the weights will seem lighter than you ever imagined. i'm serious.

I may be able to win this thing if I can do just under 300!

I went and watched the first 20 or so competitors and I came back now to eat and fuel up for my lift. I'm competitor 53.

One chick put up 195 and she was on the basketball team. Then everyone around us started talking about Imus. It was racist!

So I'm about to head out and go warm up then do my lifts.

This will help me later too as I plan to go to the ABC store for the first time ever, get a good amount of alcohol, and drink it all.

I'm doing the competition then going straight to the ABC store afterwards. Then I'm drinking.

And it would be much more than a 5-10% strength loss because I can't just have a few drinks.

I have hair on the tops of my toes all the way to my knuckles. EVERYTHING is covered.

I got 285.


I am happy with that weight. Shoulder felt fine. We had a 5 minute time limit for three tries. I got 245,275,285. The last rep took everything. It probably took me about 6 seconds to make full extension. The leader when I left did 250 at the 150 weight class.

This is a great improvement from last year. I was in the 240lb. weight class and did 320. Now at 195lbs and did 285. That's about all I could ask for. Now I will concentrate on getting stronger at this same weight. Plus, I really hadn't been training that consistent since the beginning of March.

I'm 182 lbs. Haven't hit the juice in a few years.

That's impressive! I can't imagine how people would have reacted if you put up that much weight in front of them.

then afterwards, i get "HOLY SHIT. that's impressive!" OR "yeah, my sister benches 300. she's 12."
and then someone will ask how long i've been lifting and I say 'i just started last week'.

then they ask why i'm not putting my arms down and I watch my training partner laugh.

i can't squat. i have a bad back.
i can't deadlift very well either, but i competed in it. the most i've pulled is 300. not especially impressive.

Interesting.

Maybe I should try this in a 150 weight class. I don't know what my max is though. Probably not good enough yet to bother with this, but it would be something to do in the future.
