Bench max tonight 315, I need advice and encouragement.

Well tonight is the night I go for the 315 1RM for a PR.

Last time I maxed chest was after 3 months of 5x5 and went from a max of 260 to 290. This is the warm-up I did.
1 set 8 @ 135
1 set 6 @ 205
1 set 2 @ 260
1 set 1 @ 290 1RM personal record!!
1 set 1 @ 295 failed.

My chest routine best was 240 for 5x5 all me.

Here is my plan of attack for tonight.
1 set 8 @ 135
1 set 4 @ 225
1 set 1 @ 290
1 set 1 @ 315
maybe more?

Currently I'm doing 5x3 with 270 which I got last week all by myself with only a lift off to start each set.
I got to 5x5 with 250 and then switched to 5x3 for 255-270 pounds.

I feel I'm ready but mentally still scared of the 315. What to eat or think before going in there? Does my set plan look good as far as reps and weight increases?
 
A bit more info. I did the 290 max back at the end of May weighing 232 pounds and 13.3%.

I'm now 245 pounds and 15%.

Abs tight, arch the back correctly, push your feet into the floor.

From the looks of it.......it's yours man. Do it brother.

I don't do my bench like a powerlifter, I don't arch my back. How do you concentrate on keeping the abs tight while giving your bench everything. I've just recently learned to fill with air and hold it during the lift, which has helped. I used to release the air slowly during the lift.

Synpax, I don't have a sister but I appreciate the effort. I'll just pretend I have a sister, yeah that does piss me off!
 
do a "walkout" with 325 or 335, 315 will feel like cotton candy. basically trick your body.

also, squeeze the hell out of the bar.
 
kindof like you would do with a squat. a weight you would just hold for a few seconds. its just to get a feel for holding higher weights. similar to the 1-6 thread at the top of the page.

315 was all mental for me- harder than my first 405 by far.... right before you lift remember my advice-

"Quit being a pussy and blow that shit up!!!"

That should be all you need.... :)
 
just take it off the rack in benchpress positon? I was thinking about this myself, I'm just wondering if your idea is different and possibly better :)

315 is a mental barrier. so get your buddy to load up the bar with random but increasing ammounts, using small denominations (the 5's,10's and 25's) so that you cant hear what hes putting on. and then have him put cardboard boxes over top of the weight, so you cant see them (you have to have your eyes closed the whole time). then go and bench
youll probably hit 315-325 or somethin

You can only bench 290 and you weigh 232 pounds at 13.3 % BF dude you are weak!

Im 5'10" 193 pounds at 10% BF and I can bench 355 for 1 rm, sometimes 2 or 3 on a good day. And that is not even my strongest bodypart.

geez, everyone's body is different, everyone begins at different times why the fuck do you need to put people down like that?

how do you know he hasn't had a tendon injury?
how do you know he didn't start lifting yesterday?

i may not be that strong either, but at least i know about working hard and pushing your own limits.

Sorry bro forgive my little brother he is an idiot when he thinks he can get on with my name and smash people.

I just kicked his ass and put him in the Figure 4 and made him say Uncle. He wont be doin any of that ever again.

Though my little bro is a touch right for your weight class you should have a much higher bench. Take a look at spatts thread on workin it 1-6 style. Your bench will sky rocket if you implement this type of training into your routine.

wow, you're an asshole. how about giving "not posting" a shot next time you think you have something relevant to say.
 
I agree with the OAks approach to it. You might be jumping too much each set, IMHO. Visualize, Visualize it , and yes you can tighten the abs, push the feet, low back tight while maxing out, its all up in the mind!
