Basic and Intermediate Training

NJL52

New member
Coming through highschool, I played football and was subject to bad coaches adn teammates. There was a premium put on bench press and quarter squats and biceps.

I never was realy introduced to deadlifts, presses, correct technique cleans or correct technique squats.

So my bench press is right in intermediate, my squat is just below intermediate, my press and deadlifts are right around novice levels and my clean is in between.

So basically, has anybody had any luck or any experience with training different workouts with different periodization?

You don't necessarily need to have a specially constructed routine because of your HS lifting experience. The various 5x5 programs are designed to improve your lifts regardless of what is lagging behind the others. I am doing the Intermediate 5x5 even though my overhead press and bench press are weak (in my opinion) for my size and my squat is pretty good (in my opinion) for my size.

Do you know how to squat and clean properly now? If so you should try an intermediate program since you obviously have trained in the past and are probably still in good shape. If you are totally, totally new to deadlifting and cleaning then it might be better to try a more basic program to get those new lifts developed and get you accustomed to that frequency of training.
