hank aaron and babe ruth played less games and hit more homeruns than bitch ass barry. They should calculate their HR's on the amount of games they played cause someone will break the record and have played a lot more games than an OG like babe ruth. Plus ruth hit homers with a buzz 90% of the time.

Wasn't it the same with Ted Williams?

either way i admire the guy. he makes hitting home runs look so damn easy.

I never liked him or the Giants or Pirates (hates a better word for it). I do believe the media should STFU about his steroid use untill there is real evidence, and not just heresay from jealous rivils.

i agree
he's the whipping boy for anti-aas bullshit
shame
the HOF induction could be interesting

I'm pretty indifferent about him as a player, but I do agree he's taking the fall for the MLB. Steroids are rampant in major league sports, and if they were able to keep them out completely we would be bored watching them. Athletes would be smaller, weaker and slower.

Don't care about the roid use, its not like he's the only one. I hate him because he was an asshole when I met him about 15 years ago, and he's made multiple racist comments.

I don't follow baseball with much scrutiny, but I would assume the pitchers have dramatically improved over the years as well.

arron played like 2500 more games than bonds.. good call on that one..

i can say it time and time again hitters swings back in the day were garbage.. put ruth up against pitching caliber of today and he's not even the best player on whatever team he's on .. he'd get eaten up..

he's breaking the record at home.. dunno if he only plays at home.. he def doesn't want to break the record away..

Whether or not he did steroids, whether or not he breaks the HR record, I don't give a shit. What I can't stand about him is his personality. He's such a bitch. The funniest thing I ever saw of him was when he was playing "Sad Barry" for the media, acting all depressed because everyone was tearing him apart and he didn't understand why. He just sat there mumbling and whining to all the reporters. It was great.

The guy is just an idiot. He strikes me as the kind of guy who loves to be the victim because he can try to make people feel bad for him. He's made the most ridiculous comments in the press. Gah. I just can't stand him. He's probably a prime candidate for the Biggest Douche in the Universe Award.

Talking ouy your ass on this one where Aaron is concerned:

Aaron played in 3298 games.

Bonds has played in 2950 so far...pretty safe to bet he'll break the record with many games to spare.

Aaron had 12364 career at-bats....Bonds has 9752 so far.

Now, Babe Ruth does have an edge on Bonds when you account for games played and at-bats, but Aaron isn't even close.

Check this out, too: it really shows you that genetics are far more responsible for being a dominant hitter than whether you're juiced or not:

http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science/bcfe1896a267e010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html

Pretty cool that they did all those tests on Ruth way back then.

An excerpt from an article that was in GQ about the science of baseball:

Over the next week, Harrison. Bowden, and others will convince me that highly developed binocularity- the coordinated functioning of the eyes. Particularly while they track a moving object –ought to be considered baseball’s “sixth tool.” (Scouts have traditionally emphasized five tools: the abilities to hit for average, to hit for power, to run, to throw the ball, and to field it.) That’s how predictive binocularity is of a hitter’s success, and that’s what the beach-scene eye-card test measures. Can you bear with me for a brief Bill Nye moment? Here goes: Your ability to perceive depth is made possible by the spacing of your eyes, which take in from two slightly different perspectives two separate images of whatever your looking at. When those images meet in the brain, they form a single three- dimensional picture in which you can read both the placement and movement of objects in space. But your eyes only that one point of stereoscopic focus. Outside of it, they see everything in twos, though your brain has learned to suppress this. In effect, the eye card assesses how broad your point of stereoscopic focus is, and among the tiny, self-selected population of world class ballplayers, it can be amazingly broad indeed. Some guys literally cut the eye card in half, Harrison tells me, and free-fuse it at twelve to eighteen inches. Bonds, whose vision is the best among thousands and thousands” of players Harrison has tested, can do so at a distance of four feet. Which is outrageous, and which has nothing to do, by the way, with BALCO. But still, why is binocularity important in baseball? “With less-than-perfect binocularity, the brain will suppress the simple vision of one eye,” Harrison says. “One eye alone is sufficient to see the seams on the ball or trajectory. But a one-eyes hitter has no depth perception.”

I have no opinion. I respect the fact that Barry Bonds doesn't give a fuck what you people think about him. You are all losers compared to him and he doesn't waste his time thinking about you, the way you do him... I admire the man for his indifference.

This is 100% correct. Personally I could give 2 shits about Bonds as a person, but as a player, he is the best of all time. Steroids or not. 2nd on the list is Griffey Jr. If Jr. could have stayed healthy, he would have been right with Bonds chasing the HR record.

Bonds gets a bad rap, the guy is a sick ball player with or without steroids. People who say otherwise are just bitter sheep who like to fit in, just like the Bush haters.

pitchers were also totally different back then. you cant compare today to back then.

i liked the guy till i read an article that interviewed some of his past assistants or people that dealt with him. they said he is rude, he demands things to be done and if they aren't done in a time frame he finds acceptable he curses people out. they also said he is more rude towards white people than black in that he loves to make white folks feel like a slave to him. of course how much of this is true? not sure but it did make me not like the guy as much as i did before i read the article. but truthfully as a ballplayer he is one of the best who keeps going after record after record. i mean the guy holds the record for being walked the most

They've also lowered the mound..........what does Ruth have......like 95 wins as a pitcher (I think that's right anyways I dont feel like googling)? ....plus the home runs.....that record will never be broken.

Bonds deserves respect. He's still an asshole though......most of us are.

I'd vote him into the HOF in a heartbeat. Right after I put McGwire in.

Whiskey

no brainer mcgwire should be in the hof..

no brainer bonds should get in on his first vote.. but he prob. wont..

Why does Bonds get so much attention now-a-days? We should start to overlook this conceited, big-headed jerk. Let him break the record, throw a little party and don`t sweat it anymore. A-Rod will break his record eventually. Bonds` is not baseballs saviour. The new breed of ballplayers are pretty good.

without injury and trade arod will break it.. if arod wasn't on the yankees teams wouldn't have to pitch to him.. ie. bonds..

All the more reason for him to stay put w/ the Yankees.

Bonds seems to be an ass but you gotta give him credit for being one of the all time great ball players.
He'll break Aaron's record with 1000's of fewer at bats.

Bonds is the best baseball player of all time. He's done things that no one has ever done before. The most amazing are:

One of 6 members of the 300/300 club. Which is cool. He's also the only member of the 400/400 club and the only member of the 500/500 club. That is amazing.

Holds the single season AND all time record for: HR's, walks, intentional walks. Holds the single season record for OBP, OPS, and slugging percentage. Basically, he holds a record for every major hitting stat that there is.

Has won SEVEN MVP's. Next closest in baseball is....three. Jordan only won it 5 times. Oh yeah, he's also won 8 gold gloves.

His OBP of .609 was the only time in history a player had an OBP of over 600.

In my book he's always been a consistent HR hitter... In 1993 = 46 HR's. In 1994 = 37 HR's in 112 games. In 1996 = 42. In 1997 =40. In 1999, 34 in 102 games. In 2000, 49. It's the other things he does that separate him. He's a gold glove fielder, 50 base stealer, HR champ, and batting average champ. cant really ask for much more

amazing point.. everyone hates him..yet he still hasn't been proven without a doubt guilty of knowingly taking steroids or taking them at all..

not to mention even if he has who cares.. do you know how hard it is to hit a 96 mph fastball.. or an 80mph curve.. obviously i dont as i've only faced up to like 91 with a decent curve.. but i do recall how hard that was..

this world likes to hate on winners or people who succeed.. the rich, the famous, the sports athletes..

alot of jealously in this world.

comment wasn't referred to you.. it was referred to the general population that dont know shit about baseball other than what they print in the tabloids.. mostly barry bonds = steroids..

also you dont know why he's an asshole.. theres always reasons certain people all they way they are .. seems like he was a pretty genuine guy last night when he was making his speech to the crowd..

honestly barry was first known as only an asshole to the media.. and who can blame him if thats how is father told him to be..

Good point.
I was also reading an artical recently on, I can't remember the term, occular something.
It's the way your eyes work together to distinguish 3D movement. Barry Bonds was tested and found to have the best ever recorded. That has a lot more to do with his abilities than the juice.

that says it all. bonds is the greatest.

I don't care what drugs the guy took he is one hell of an athlete. Even before his "growth spurt" he was going into the hall of fame. Love him or hate him, he could be the best player of our generation.

Babe Ruth is the greatest baseball player ever, he hit 50 to 60 homers each season when most players in his era couldn't even hit 10, plus he was a damn good pitcher.

Bro..Bambino played 21 seasons. He hit 50 homers 4 times, and 60 homers once.

And he wasn't even the best hitter in his era. That title goes to Josh Gibson (hint: you don't know about him because he played in the Negro leagues, seperate from the MLB) When Babe was having his white league leading 40 HR seasons, Gibson was having 50, 60, and even 70 HR seasons in the Negro leagues. They didnt really keep accurate stats back then so they don't know exactly how many HRs Gibson had, but his HOF plaque says "nearly 800". Considering he played baseball for 4 years less than Ruth, thats quite an accomplishment no?

I know who Josh Gibson is, and it isn't Babe Ruth's fault that blacks weren't allowed in the majors. Barry is a cheater and he took steroids so he could hit more homers. I think its far more impressive for Babe Ruth to get 60 homers in an era when most players couldn't hit 10. Than Barry's tainted "73" when many players hit 40 plus in Barry's era.

I think Barry Bonds is one of the greatest in history, but to say he is better than Babe Ruth is crazy.

Also Josh Gibson with his nearly 800, how is that better than Sadahara Oh and his 868 homers?

How is Barry a cheater when:

a) We don't even know if he took steroids?
b) Even if he did take steroids, at the time he took them they were legal?

Babe wasn't as dominant as you say. He didn't even lead the league in HR's for 11 of his big league seasons. And in the years when he did lead in HR's, there were plenty of players right behind him (Lou Gherig, Jimmie Foxx, Cy Williams, Hack Wilson, Rogers Hornsby, Chuck Klein, Mel Ott, etc.) For example, in 1930 Babe finished 2nd in HR's, 6th in RBI, and 10th in batting average. And there were 19 players in the big leagues with over 20 HR's, and 10 with over 30.

If the whole argument for Ruth is that he was a "man among boys", then it's a stupid argument. None of his numbers were even that outstanding for his era. He had 60 homers in 1927...but Hack Wilson hit 56 in 1930 and Jimmie Fox hit 58 in 1932. He NEVER led the league in batting average. His RBI totals, for his time, weren't anything outstanding. Lou Gherig, Hack Wilson, Jimmie Fox consistently out-RBI'd him. The only thing really impressive about his #'s was his...walks. Oh yeah, but Bonds pwns him in walks.

And I won't even answer your last question, which has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Since SADAHARU Oh played in a completely different era and country than Bonds and Ruth, his stats don't factor into this discussion at all. But i am VERY impressed with your knowledge.

he obviously doesn't know shit if he is calling barry a cheater.. i guess we can call ruth a cheater too since at the time it was illegal for blacks to play in the mlb..

I didn't look up anything, I've been a baseball fan since I was 8 years old. I brought up Sadahara Oh, because he brought up Josh Gibson. I don't see a difference between the Negro Leagues and baseball in Japan, both were better than the minors and likely not as good as the majors. I know many of the Negro league players could have been stars in the majors and some of them got to move up to the majors after Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby broke the color barrier.

I think that Barry Bonds cheated by taking steroids, it wasn't Babe Ruth's fault blacks weren't allowed in the majors. Right now less than 10 percent of MLB is black, so I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes anyway.

Right now I'm going to look up Babe Ruth stats, cause people were posting stats of what Babe did in 1930 and 1932, that was towards the end of his career when more players hit homers, let's see what he did in the 20's?

Home Run leaders totals American League

1910 Jake Stahl 10
1911 Frank Baker 11
1912 Frank Baker, Tris Speaker 12
1913 Frank Baker 12
1914 Frank Baker 9
1915 Braggo Roth 7

1918 Babe Ruth, Tilly Walker 11
1919 Babe Ruth 29
1920 Babe Ruth 54
1921 Babe Ruth 59
1922 Ken Williams 39
1923 Babe Ruth 41
1924 Babe Ruth 46

My point is Babe Ruth hit 40 to 50 homers when others struggled to hit 10, I know that later on in Babe's career Gehrig, Foxx, Hack Wilson, etc. came along and started hitting tons of homers also, but before Babe it was Homerun Baker with his awesome power of 9 to 12 hr's per season.

look at babe ruths athleticism for gods sake.
