SOME rate of fat accumulation is to be expected when bulking, but the quick road to looking downright corpulent and pregnant, bulking does not have to be. This is the bread and butter of targetted carb or cyclical carb bulking such as the Anabolic Diet by Dr. Dipasquale.
Even with skinny guys who have trouble gaining weight, there is a threshold of caloric intake that if crossed through normal carb intake will bring on significant weight gain accompanied by high ratio fat gain, unless there's an accompanying medical condition with the thyroid or the right mix of anabolic drugs being used.
If you're doing this all to look good, whichever direction you go with your bulking diet, you can keep a mirror and some calipers handy and just cut back down to 10% or less with a ketogenic diet whenever you reach a level of fat accumulation that you or a significant other find unacceptable.
Losing my six-pack definition while bulking is one thing, but I and most women find the protruding pregnant beer gut look downright repulsive. Do Ab Vacuum exercises regularly whether bulking or cutting to avoid unnecessary abdominal protrusion. Also, getting your food intake from 6-7 moderate sized meals as opposed to 3 huge meals is better for stomach size.
