Bad for not wanting to lift legs?

xxbignipperxx

New member
Ok well I train my legs about once a week. The problem is I have a big ass genetically and I'm already having a hard time fitting into jeans. I really don't want my glutes to get any bigger. And now that I'm on swole...I really can't fit into shit. I have jumped from a 33" to a 36". Anyone else have this same problem? How do you train legs for strength while not gaining too much size?

I switched over this cycle from shooting my sust in the glutes to the shoulders and that has helped alot with the localized swelling.

well when i squat i tend to stay 12-15 reps with perfect form...nothing over 350 for me which is very very light....i dont mind having tree trunks for legs though....gotta do em bro

Tree trunks and a big ass and I look like an duck from the side. I want to slim everything down from the waist down. I have a big chest proportionate to my arms so it makes me look kinda funny from the side...

I have the same 'problem' with my legs in regards to the size they are in comparison to the rest of me. I have a 29 inch waist but have to buy pants in up to a 34 to get them to fit my legs. I find that high intensity cardio slims them down a bit. BUT don't stop lifting legs! Since I really started paying attention to my leg training my upper body made a huge jump in size and my back and shoulder thickness has increased quite a bit. I just stick with 12 to 15 reps and do compound movements.

lol...I am going to advise you to do somehting I would normally NEVER advise anyone to do...Get out of the squat rack for awhile...You could try doing more isolation movements, curls, extensions, etc...but dont expect great growth from those alone (and note: This is NOT something I myself would do...) but I am trying to remedy your particular "problem"...

It may help this, but maybe not...I don't think I would try it though (and I have a big ass...especially for a guy with a meager 28" waist :D)

Most people who say they have big asses have underdeveloped hamstrings, so it makes their ass look a lot bigger.

Your eyes are going to fall out when you read this....I don't do squats. Want to know why? I can't get my arms around the bar. I can get one arm around it, the other one is so stiff it wont let me reach it. One of my shoulders is more set inward...its awkard. You can't really tell unless you look closely. I've tried numerous times to do squats and have ended in failure everytime. When I do a double bicep pose...my hands are facing more forward...they aren't parallel with my shoulders at all.

Same problem here bros. Big ass, big quads, 32 inch waist but there isn't a pair of 32" waist pants I can fit into. The odd size 36, but mostly 38's for for this dude. I hate the when the waist of my pants gets all krinkled up when I tighten my belt. Just one of the sides of being a bodybuilder I guess.

The waist wrinkles and the sides of the pants flare out lol.

hamstring curls 5 sets

smith machine squats leg well forward 5 sets

I started to get edgy three days ago. It's like there's a giant clock

day. The ticking turns into a head splitting air raid siren, and when that
happens people run for cover as my resentment builds. That something like a
million volts running through my veins. All I want to do is destroy the
weights. I don't train to become another athlete, I train to become "
Godsize ". Hardcore to me means being built to last. In the gym, I stay
focused, others call it Madness. I'm mean and nasty, it's an all out war and
I'm the underdog, and that's where I like it. No rest, no vacations, no pat
on the back until leg day is over. I might not win every show, but I will
bleed myself dry to dominate every battle in the gym. Every leg day that
goes by adds to my strength and development. I've been battered and beaten
but never ever fucking close to being broken. And I will remain un
breakable. This is my world, this is my sport, I been doing this to long to
let it beat me down. Welcome to my leg day, and I'm very glad to have you
with me during battle. Power be with You Frankie

And thats all I have to say about that.

I want to tell you all I just broke down and bawled my eyes out because of my previous post on this thread. Given my current state of health it almost fucking infuriates me to read the title of this post. Fuck yes its bad. Go to the gym and train legs harder than you ever have. Get in there and puke and bleed and cuss Drive your body to its limit. Come back in seven days and do it harder...thats how champions and hereos are made.

Quad

P.S. Sorry this was so harsh but its just how I feel right now.

Push it to the limit! So what is your current status on the injury? Hope things get better for you! Cheers!

You gotta love Quads replies...to the point and always correct.

My question is, how can someone like to workout if they do not like to do legs. Of course it's gonna make you sick and you know you won't be worth a shit the rest of the day, but this is your chance to push more weight and get balls to the wall crazy unlike any other bodypart. Well, at least it should be.

Nothing's better than getting loud while your pounding your legs and the guy over on the bench(you know the type, benches every other day) is looking at you thinking "why is he being so loud". Of course he doesn't hear the music flowing through your headphones which makes you want to explode, and has probably never even been close to puking during a workout. And you just give 'em that look and he quickly turns his head until you start blasting again and then you can just feel them watching you.

It could be someone you don't know, or even your best friend, but you don't talk to them..not because you're a dick, but because it's legs day and all you feel like doing is killing someone. Now that's hardcore! Hate your leg workouts so much that you begin to love them.

Quad, keep your head up bro. You've bounced back before and better than ever. If it makes you feel any better, I'll hit my legs twice as hard from here until showtime...11 weeks.

You missed my point. I don't want to get my ass any bigger...it's not that I don't like to train legs.

I've got fairly wide hips (pelvis) :( compared to my waist, so I hear ya... I basically focus my leg training on hitting my quads & hams hard (like Omega's suggested routine) while limiting exercises that really hit the glutes & hips (like deep squats). I know some consider it heresy to even suggest reducing or eliminating squatting, but it does help keep ass/hip growth in check for those of us that have that issue.

You my friend are a prime candidate for yoga as part of your training. You are not stretching enough. and yoga is much harder than it looks. Thanks!

I can't stand TRAINING LEGS!!!!!!!!! But I do it, cause I love the after effect...........love/hate relationship!

QUAD sweep is right.. train those legs... you also may want to consider more cardio... some people have a tendency to carry more fat in the hips and legs than others... so if you lose the fat.. the ass will get smaller.

You can't avoid training legs. Just not a good idea! There are ways around your problem. I had the same problem during this past year. My ass got huge from putting on weight and squats. I've finally got rid of it by concentrating on dieting but it was a pain. Here is the solution. Don't neglect your squats, but do them heavy and put two ten pound plates on the floor where your feet will be. Put your heels up on the plates so that you have your toes on the floor and heels on the plates. This puts most of the pressure on your quads and not your glutes. Do heavy squats but only go half way down. Then do other isolated exercises like heavy leg extensions, hack squats, and hamstrings.

JKurz1 said:
Half way down meaning 90 degrees, I hope.............otherwise, the exercise is pointless............

Almost 90 degrees or very close to. The good thing about using the plates to put more pressure on your quads is that it allows you to not have to go so low to really work your quads, and it helps you avoid working your glutes too much.

cant you just do front squats?

stretching is absolutely crucial... i have poor movement in my left shoulder due to surgery and a recent injury.. ifi i dont stretch like a mother fucker before i workout, i wont be able to do shit with it.

my normal waist size is 32, but the pants my work supplied me with are built for skinny mofos, because they looked like spandex on me. I exchanged them for 34's, and they still look like spandex but they fit around the waist.. i bet at the end of this cycle i'm gonna be ripping through these where my quad is. I guess i'll get some like size 40 pants, tighten up the belt and have some cool lookin mc hammer wannabe pants to work in

Exactly my thoughts...hammer time...lol. It looks like shit if you ask me. I'm not here to become a pro body builder....looking sharp in clothes is still a high priority. :) I do need to stretch more...sometimes when I'm on my Chest days and I stretch after my first couple sets, I really feel like my armpit area is going to rip open. I have some pretty nasty stretch marks that fill up with blood in that area on Chest days.

Quadsweep,
That statement was beautiful man. Today is leg day, so that was just what I needed!:D Not that I needed the motivation, I love training legs(seperates the big arm and chest guys from the true bodybuilders) but the extra motivation doesn't hurt. Oh, and good luck with the rehab, you'll be back in the squat rack before you know it.

Well hell, I really don't have the right to be commenting too much on training since I'm just now getting ready to hit the gym again myself after a very long layoff. But I will anyway.

I had a similar problem even though the majority of my training was natural. Once I started squatting my thighs grew so fast I got stretch marks and I busted the legs out of every pair of boxer shorts I had. I still believe in the squat though.

But I do know that back in the dinosaur days Vince Gironda used to design a lot of routines around limiting ass size. Bob Ciccerhello?sp? uses a routine along the same lines which includes no squats. I'm sure you could do some searches on those guys and come up with a good routine.
