Ugh bro, I didn't claim he was Denzel. If you watch Twins, Junior and even Conan, you can see the man can clearly act. Not an a list actor, but certainly not an Ed Wood reject. Watch the important moments in Conan, especially after he kills James Earl Jones. As he sits on those steps. Those few silent moments speak volumes.
Yes, sadly Vin Diesel appears to be the next big action star. He can act based on Boiler Room, and perhaps the un seen Knock around guys. But he sold out to make millions on cheap 'yo b, whad up!" action flicks, and to tell you the truth, I can't say I blame him. Who wouldn't for 20mill a flick?!
If you look at almost all of Arnolds other flicks, he does in fact play and every day man. Here you have a firefighter who has just lost his family (a very real threat right now), he waits for justice, and does not get it. He doesn't hijack a plane and steal a bunch of guns like in commando and blow everyone away. He does something that could actually be done. He actually does research, and sneaks in, gets caught, and gets his ass beat plenty. He is NOT made up to be a super hero who saves the day. Not once does he pick up a gun, not once does he kick 10 guys ass, he made one explosion with skills he knows from his job. Thats all. He gets caught by the police, and then by the rebels. He barely go out alive. Not once do you see him all oiled up with camaflouge pants saving the day. If you want to talk about unrealistice, look at Denzel, the great actor you mention. His Training Day, and John Q are MORE unrealistic than this one. I bet if Harrison Ford would have done this movie (he was going to), and not Arnold, you would suddenly talk about how real, and legit it was.
As for his past few movies sucking, give the guy a break. He still got $20 mill a piece for them, and he took a break off for 2 years. It's never easy when you come back, especially 2 years, and just having heart sugery. 6th day sucked, End of Days has good rental value on a friday night, but Colleteral Damage was actually a good flick, and a turning point for him. Thats my opinion, and I am entitled to it, like you are to yours. And again, I am sure he gives two shits, what you or I think. It doesn't matter if his next flick is the biggest hit of all time, or it makes $10 bucks, he has done it all, and is living out all his dreams. That can't be said for most people these days....
