I find I'll be in the middle of something work related and if the page loads too slowly I start checking my email or reading posts on here. I almost do it unconsciously. I need a device that blocks any site I don't need for work except on lunch breaks. It seems I have no self discipline.

Anyone else find themselves doing this?

Disconnect for a few days and detox! LOL I did that with my cell phone and didn't realize how much it had me stressed out due to people easily being able to dump their lack of planning, I mean emergency on me. I quit carrying a cell phone for a month and LOVED it. There was a time we didn't have cell phones and we were able to function.

But, you can't leave here, just everything else! LOL

I was actually thinking of doing that here at work. There are good days and bad days, and the days I goof off on the internet I feel guilty and I cant relax when i go home.

when I go home there is no pull whatsoever to the internet.

lol

I have this problem only during work hours too.I also get mad if I'm called while typing in a thread;hence losing my train of thought. The nerve of some people, huh?

I hate that myself.

I don't make myself that available on the cell -it's for real emergencies or urgent messages but for someone people they consider themselves the most important breathing human so everything is urgent. What I really HATE is when I'm on road it usually means I'm working with clients or contractors and when another client calls and posts a hissy fit as to why they couldn't reach me (but they don't leave a message). I have actually had to give a client good times to call me based on my schedule that week and remind them that the schedule could change, as well as, expressing that when I am giving someone my undivided attention I can not pick up the phone to talk to someone else.

JMJ!

And the younger the person the worse they are - no manners, MEMEMEMMEMEMEMEME.

Yep, people, I think we have a problem. I don't even keep a computer at home, because I made a vow not to put one in home. I was afraid I would be pulled to it too much.

I can't tell you how much that sounds like me. I go home and worry about how unproductive the day was.

It is an addiction. There sending there kids to rehab in China already.

And yes. You are addicted. You are the first one who came to my mind when I saw the title of the thread.

You have make yourself goals - ABC before lunch and DEF before you go home. If you finish goals early between lunch and going home reward yourself with guilt freee surfing.

You guys are right. It is becoming a problem. :( I seriously think I will block myself with net nanny. I could get around net nanny but it would be an extra step that would make me think, "do I really need to check my mail or ef AGAIN." I'm also finding myself checking the restroom over and over again to see if I flushed last time I used the restroom. I know I did it, but I can't stop thinking about it. ARRRRGGGHHH.

when i was running my office, i put up a block on myspace, espn.com and a bunch of other sites for my loan officers and telemarketers.

i gave them access to it if they typed in the password, but the password was "brokeassnigga".

made them think twice

Perhaps just like consciously limit your time on the interwebs/EF? Or maybe lurk more or something...it's less time consuming to be an observer than active participant.

How did you do this? What software? I want to do this to myself...lol.

I would like a free way. I'm frugal (cheap)...lol.

i had my IT guy do it...so i dunno

but for personal you can do it for IE and firefox for sure.

IE you can do it through your control panel. just block the sites you visit most frequent (for me...here, espn.com, nypost, nydailynews, occasionalyl myspace)

firefox you have to download procon i think? or firefox latte or some shit. i have to check on my home computer to see which program. i had to download a bunch to figure out which one it was

Are you flirting with me?

I switched to cable at the house but intentionally haven't hooked up the computer yet
I'm going to see how long I can go w/o internet at home

i'll probably never have the comp at my house anymore.

last 2 weeks i havent and i been so productive. i cant watch tv for very long.

so i do stuff like cook(for the week), clean, organize my shit and read(books even!!).

no chance for procrastination

no.

I check maybe 5 sites a day for my daily information. "Time killers". Rest is all work-related.

I'm addicted when I am at home. At work you have to sometimes bring your own electricity let alone a computer of some type.

I usually do not browse at work, if my network admin (who is a fuckin dumb fat bitch) see's me on a steriod discussion board I could get into trouble. She is looking for any reason to start shit.

No, I just enjoy it. I would not go nuts or anything if the computer never worked again, and I dont play on it when I have other things to do...I just use it for entertainment same way as my tv, radio, or phone...

Who the hell am I kidding?! I love my computer
