People that don't understand geopolitics and power projection are rattling sabres. Putin is pulling an age old trick, the Russian economy is tanking and so he appeals to nationalism...something the Tsar's did as a matter of policy because it usually works. Russia has a structural defect in their economic system, an oligarchy, that will lead them down the same road as the Soviet Union. Every empire collapses when they overextend their perceived power.
