Are depression meds worth it?

HappyScrappy said:
there is a difference between being mopey or down in the dumps, and full blown clinical depression.
if you aren't feeling great, the day just sucks, hell, the week sucks - that is nothing. then I agree that yes, you have control over that, and if you can't handle it, then toughen up.

but clinical depression is a whole different deal.

unless you have been through it, it is easy to spout off how it is nothing, and how the drugs don't matter.

do I think everyone needs drugs? no.
do I think america is overperscribing them? yes.

but for the most part, I'm disappointed with a few people on this thread.

Does being in the dumps throw you into sporadict anxiety attacks? Ill be fine one second, and going nuts the next. And like I said, its very present in my family

After seeing what Paxil has done to my father in law - i would never recommend anyone use it!!!!!!!

He got on it about 2 years ago - for temper, anxiety, etc...It did wonders for him for about 8 mts., then slowly it was losing its effectiveness so they upped his dose....this is when things went BAD! He would break out in a full blown sweat - it was GROSS! Running down his face - underarms soaking wet..yuck! then he started losing his mind - he would totally lose concentration..he couldnt remember shit! He would talk for hours and never say anything...he was going crazy!! he tried to decrease his dose again - but OMG - the withdrawals are HORRIBLE.....my mother in law left him last week b/c she couldnt handle it , so I dont know exactly where he's at or how he's doing now.....

Just my .02 cents :)
sounds like a legit lawsuit to me. Honest, I hate seeing people sue over shit but this well deserved. Poor guy.

I was on paxil for a while. It was cool at first...I was horny all the time, and had tons of energy. After a while though the side effects got kinda rough. The equipment wasn't, um...functioning it you know what I mean. Plus my hands would shake a lot and i'd get headaches.

Also used Acendin. Not bad. Doubt it made much difference.

Strange how some anti-d's work for some people and not for others.

I dont want to sound like an idiot or anything, but I reccomend smoking weed.

Question: How many people who are buzzed on weed are pissed off, angry, depressed etc? Not many unless booze is involved to.

I am not saying smoke it everyday but once or twice a week, maybe that will help.

The reason why potheads arn't angry is because they escape
Personally, i don't think that escaping your problems are going to help any
antidepressants allowe one to face their problems without having to escape.. just giving them a little booster

Where are YOU getting your information??????

there was an anti paxil thread a few months ago. but the search isn't working right now. i've had friends go on klonopin for anxiety. they said it works. i'm supposed to be on xanax for panic attacks, but i'm not. i should probably take something. damn hypochondria.

i don't know how or why, but alot of mood stabalizers are very addictive & have bad side effects. so you should look into them more and find a trustworthy doctor to prescribe them.

it depends on the individual too. some people get better from medicine X and some don't. i think there are about 30-60 or so antianxiety drugs out there to choose from.

I find it kind of humorous that all of a sudden we have armchair psychiatrists who think anti depressants are bullshit and depression is imaginary. Too funny. :FRlol: Every time I go to a chat board I seem to encounter lots of these "experts" on a variety of subjects.

Kneepads....
I really think he is too fucked in the head to sue now...Im serious, he's not even the same person...Oh and I forgot one more really bad side ---- He is sooo paranoid about everything..he constantly thinks people are looking in the house, cops are coming,etc...wierd shit....nightmares.....He's basically lost his mind...I think he is planning on seeing a specialist - maybe when he upped the dose it caused a chem. imbalance? I dont know, thats just my best guess?????
