its better to go a non premed degree for undergrad so u actually have something when u graduate and if u dont get into med school. all u need is to take 2 o chem classs and u meet the reqs to get into med school......

Can someone else please verify this?? I looked into med school a few years back - I heard I had to pretty take all the undergrad classes to qualify..

check out some med schools reqs. msot of the broader schools will have made u taken enough sciences and maths to fill almost all reqs.....

if u go biomedical engineering u fill i think every req...... but someone verifying this would be great!

Admissions process is starting and im scared...... applying to psu. purdue, virginia tech. pitt. university of illinois and drexel. looking to major in electrical engineering then possilby go to med schoool. applying sucks :( im so scared cuz my gpa is only a 3.4 but my sat's are 1400. :/

I think the GPA isn't going to count very much if you have a lot of extra curricular stuff. It's really down to two things:
1) Extra curricular
2) Standardized tests (SAT, SAT IIs, APs, ACT, etc.)

GPA is worthless to colleges.

Hell, throw in an application to MIT while you are at it.

Your HS GPA is quite important in applying to colleges. It only becomes trivial when Ivys or HYPs are getting thousands of applications that all have 4.0 unweighted GPAs and 1600 SATs. That's where ECs and letters come in. I hope that MIT comment was a joke... don't wast $35 (or whatever) applying there unless you are one of the best in the nation at something. Schools really are bastards now... some more than others.

Your stats are good for what you are looking at. Some solid ECs, a strong essay, and a letter or two and you shouldn't have a problem. There are a few states taking huge budget cuts recently -- Wisconsin being one of them -- that's about the only thing that could really get in your way, if you're an in-stater. Although getting into any college involves some chance nowadays, it shouldn't be to much of a problem with the larger schools.

Since I'm looking at PSU as well...

PSU stats:

SAT ranges:
530-630 verbal, 42% had >600, 8% >700
560-660 math, 59% had >600, 15% >700

42% from top tenth of their HS class

3.57 average HS GPA

27,899 applied in 2003
57% accepted
38% enrolled

Rolling admissions
