Anyone not train to failure and still get results?

making gains is not at all about training to failure, i havent used a routine based around training to failure in about 5 years and ive made HUGE gains. stop reading FLEX and MUSCLE & FITNESS

Why would you train to fail? Planned progression will get you better results faster than training to failure every day.

When I go to the gym my goal is not to fail, it is to succeed at getting all my reps at what ever weight I will be lifting that day. If I fail it is not planned, it is because I could not make the lift. Hopefully those days are few and far between.

Failure should never be a goal.
 
would a 5x5 be considered training till failure?

i've always made decent gains on 5x5s.

madcow 5 x 5 is certainly not training to failure. It is planned progression. People make better gains in shorter time on a routine like the 5 x 5 than training to failure like the lame Muscle mag type work outs.

Training to failure is a bunch of crap that came form muscle mags trying to sell you their crappy products. They did this because if they gave you actual good info that you can use, such as with good training and good diet (not supplements) you will see great results, they would loose sponsors and go out of business. So their business is selling you a load of crap while trying to sell you more crap on the side. Hence the "training to failure" type crap they spew.
 
take the 8x3 appraoch on all your core lifts rather than 3x8, you'll still be getting your 24 reps but they'll be lots more productive for you. really, if you want some sick size fast hit singles for a while

The first 2-3 reps of any set are more difficult. You're starting from dead stop. After the first couple reps CNS and muscle reflex have adjusted. Powerlifters and others looking to get strong vs. hypertrophy should use this method.
