I have been managing my own portfolio for the past 5-6 yrs and have great success with my stocks, but I am not a stockbroker.

This is what I would do if I were you. I would find out what company stock the dividend came from, then find out what they are suppose to be giving you as a dividend (#shares x amount under dividend). Compare the total dividend amount to that of which they subtracted from you, and then confront your stockbroker about it. Usually your broker will have everything in detail of why things were taken out.

If stuff does not seem right, then ask them to send you a copy of the transaction of everything that was taken out via secure email. Then send it to another broker of the same firm and ask his opinion or send it to the broker of another firm asking for the opinion on the subject matter. You could even go to a lawyer and ask him about it. Your lawyer could get advice from proffessionals without you paying for consultation most of the time (favors and all).

Before I go further, What company do you use??

well for dividends you must own them before the exdividend date which is 2-3 days before the record date(which i did) and you are entitled to them if you hold them until after the record date(which i did) and sold right after the record date, this is all true with cash dividend which it was, what the broker is telling me is the scenario for stock dividends which is a whole different story.....

baress i use etrade, it was the full amount of the dividend that they took out, right on the pmt date i recieved the money then about 2 wks later the whole thing was taken back, i wonder what they would have done if i woulda closed my account right after that...

I AM a broker and I'll tell ya that shit like this happens all the time. You see, brokers are commissioned. So I bust my fucking ass to give each and every client exactly what they need. All we do is provide a service, and the better the service, the better the referals and thus more money.

Now what happens sometimes is that there are problems w/the back office bimbos/dumbfucks. They have a salary and a piddly one at that. So they don't fucking give a shit about you or your customers. It's simply b/c they make the same regardless. I just had some guy today that got fucked out of $500. So I had to go back and scream at these fucking idiots to get it corrected.

I tell ya, I'm not well liked by the salaried peons here. When my client needs something, they get it. Period. I don't give a fuck who I have to piss off. When it comes to money, NOBODY gets in my fucking way. Sorry for the rant.

Read the fine print! Brokers, Banks and the Gov have the legal right to take any money back that they accidently put in your accounts! And there is not a dam thing you can do about it! Be thankful you did not spend the money, cause they would be out for blood if you did not pay the balance back!

True, but if it was never supposed to have been there in the first place, what's the big deal? Any $ erroniously put into your account was not credited to the right account. Each misappropriation of funds error has two sides to it

Dcup the point is the dividend was mine to start in the first place, the dumbass is telling me that i have to hold until the payout date...
