Anyone get Black Ops last night?

LOL @ 0:20.

im worried this is just going be another world at war until mw3 comes out.

im gonna wait at least a week or two before buying it. that little car thing is super gay.

My step-son bought it this afternoon...and I havnt seen him since so he must be enjoying it.

its supposed to be boss

think i will hit up CL looking for a used one from some poor sap who didnt have the money but had to buy it anyway
lol

dunno very hard to top mw2 and since another company created this cod - i'm not that excited until proven otheriwse. All i know it's just another fps shooting game. Probably will suck like COD 2.

c

I got it...same s the older ones, tight game play, sick sounds, etc. havent gotten to play it to much though, I have heard that it improved on alot of BS from the previous version.

Haven t gotten into online play or co op but you can earn "currency" to buy better weapons and stuff(Like counter strike i guess) then play a game mode where you can place bets with the currency.

Seems fun.

They had better not pull that shit of releasing map packs with "enhanced" old maps from previous games.....loyal COD players didn't appreciate that shit at all.

Probably a short single player game like all the other, but it's all about the MP anyway.

Seems harder than the last one on the same difficulty setting....the A.I. is definitely tougher and smarter.

naw.........i never even got MW2. I have a shitload of ps3 games. i like FPS, but that's the type of game that'd eat too much of my time and end up pissing me off getting killed by 11 year olds.

i already have a stack 2 phonebooks high of games i haven't beaten yet or really played completely (alternate endings etc)

i been caught up in fallout new vegas...but i hit the max level now and it kinda pisses me off. not that much incentive to do the side quests

the game i'm waiting for is Dragon Age 2.....you won't hear from me for 2 weeks when that comes out

Bought is last night - Xbox 360...it's pretty awesome. But I like those kinds of games and am a sucker for X-Box live........in the rare instances that I have time to play.

I was playing single player and sniping the enemy with the explosive tipped arrows, shot a dude...before it had a chance to explode he ran next to another dude and blew up...the other guy flew into the air and his leg blew off....awesome.

that seals the deal rob, im getting it

OMG that's awesome! I'll be playing tonight even if it means pi$$ing off the hubby because I stay up late....lol!

Rented it last night, and by the time I got through the first mission I realized how much this series is starting to feel like watching one of those new spastic morning cartoons as an adult, only about war. The cluster fuck of a first mission was probably most responsible for the headache I got come to think of it. Some of the set pieces I've seen in review clips look cool but aside from that this is honestly one of the most generic shooters around.

Not Black Ops in particular but the series as a whole. At least the first MW felt fairly fresh at the time but this is nothing more than another reskinned update. It benefits here and there from MW2's texture streaming from environments to character models, but weapons still for the most part feel like peashooters and have very little punch, and sound little better. Enemies, still feels like you're shooting cardboard cutouts with pre-canned animations more so than rag doll meat suits. Most if not all lighting I've seen so far is baked, very little if any post processing besides some DoF. Explosions look cool but are all 2D composite sprites, which apparently for those who've played this in 3D look horrible.
The only upside is that it does run at or around 60 Hz so the action is nice and smooth at least. Enemy dismemberments is a cool touch too, like in W@W.

For as good as this game may look at times it's skin deep at best. BF:BC2 still lays waste to it technically. This winter Cryis 2 and Killzone 3 will make this game look like a relic and hopefully for the good of the industry people will start paying more attention to games that actually deserve it lol. I heard some comments on how CoD is becoming like the Madden of shooters, and I'd agree. It's made to make Activision even richer more than anything else, cue its marketing budget probably surpassing its development cost. Not to say it's a bad game, but certainly not worthy of all the hype either.

Goddamit hansel has spoken on the matter. See dude, your standard for games is so much higher than mine so its not fair comparison. Tell me how BO compares just to MW2 please?
So far this year ive passed on halo and that other shooter that came out. My true love is really Gears so they better fucking bring it next year.

Hansel bro you are nuts for this statement....the A.I. is pretty fuckin smart in this game.

I agree on the madden of shooters though.

Oh I also forgot RAGE; that's another one that will pwn CoD next year lol.
Personally I'd also much rather play the new Gears than another CoD if it's still like this. Again, not to say it's a bad game, just low on my list of favorite shooters. I've only had time to play maybe half so far but I'd say MW 2's campaign gameplay was designed/executed better. Story would go to BO though; they didn't just feed a bunch pages into a wood chipper and see what came out the other end. I actually find myself somewhat being able to give a shit, whereas MW2's story was like condensing a Hideo Kojima type plot (MGS series) into a 5 hour game without the insanely long cutscenes to explain it.
I've also read multiplayer is deeper and designed better in BO. Will try it after the campaign.

Nope not AI, that's pretty good. Just the act of shooting enemies and their death animations is pretty meh. I do like some of the setpieces though, pretty much the main reason I bother playing through CoD campaigns lol.

"a 5 hour game without the insanely long cutscenes to explain it"

Not sure exactly how long black ops is but I agree that these games (although are really all about the MP), are slap you in the face short.

Haven't gotten to the MP yet either(the wagering mode sounds wicked), I know that all I see are XB friends constantly playing MP though.

They are going to fuck themselves in the ass if they pull that re releasing of old "enhanced" maps....free maybe but not charging for them.

Ok picked it up used off CL from some guy who pre-ordered and now needed the cash, $50.

Glad I didnt pay full retail for it. It doesnt suck but its sort of a clusterfuck of a game. The whole thing told in flashback visions is irritating. Graphics are maybe a little better than MW2. The weapons are too advanced for the time period they are used in (red laser dot ghost ring reticle on a machine gun in 1968? i dont think so). But its a video game so whatever. I do really like the historical cold war story. Meeting Kennedy was a nice touch (that would never happen in that situation IRL though). Hopefully the game makes it to the 80's and get to meet Reagan? That would be sweet.
Once again Im yearning for Gears 3 to come out and bring the ultraviolence.

I liked MW2 better. Keith David's voice in the previous one makes up for the problems with that game. This version doesn't have anything redeeming. I hate this team's engine vs Infinity Ward's engine. The people are too shiny.

Yeah some have commented about the modern attachments on some of the weapons.

But that is a huge part of the MP though leveling up and unlocking attachments.

I would be bored quickly if I had a limited amount of guns and could only aim using iron sights.

nah...i got laid instead...shame on me.

Are you saying that all gamers are nerds and can't get laid?

I wouldn't do the standing in line shit either, but not all gamers are the typical stereotype...fat lazy, sloppy no girlfriend.

I game, workout, have a 11 month old son and get laid all the time by my hot as fuck wife who could be Tera Patrick's twin(minus the big natural hooters).

even if i was a rump-ranger...wouldn't still be better to get laid than to wait in line to buy a video game??
Not necessarily. It depends on how you view it.

Or are you thinking in terms of absolutes again? That never ends well.

And who said anything about waiting in line? That's crazy for either sex or a video game.

The people are shiny in every current gen CoD lol. The engine Treyarch uses is just a modified version of IW's MW engine, and actually improves upon it (physics, fire propagation, dismemberments). I think the reason MW2's graphics are more consistent is probably due to texture streaming, which doesn't look like it made it into Black Ops.

Really? I've gone through the last few iterations (thanks Youtube) and see quite a visual difference between the two. The IW one doesn't look shiny as the Treyarch one. Also, I find that the sounds are muffled in the Treyarch one.

nah...it was just a throw-away comment for shits and giggles...truth be told? last night i drank a little jim beam over ice and played guitar with my daughter (we're gonna do open mike night next tuesday and she's been practicing a LOT harder than me so, i needed to get caught up a little bit) then, after the kids were in bed, my wife and i watched foxworthy/engvall/white/cableguy on comedy central for a while...then she fell asleep on one couch and i fell asleep on the other...then, she woke me up around 11-ish and we went to bed...and slept...the end.

and, for what it's worth, i'd still rather do that than play video games...i suck at them and they just don't interest me in the least.

i'm not sure that that means...i'm really good at what i do for a living but there's a whole lot of stuff i'm not good at...and right now, one of them is trying to figure out what you're asking me :whatever:

lol at waking up at 11, then having to go back to bed.
Surely you meant waking up at 11a
lololol

Heard lots of reviews on the campaign here, but little about the MP. How does it compare to MW2? If I buy it, I'll run through the campaign, but the MP is why I'll get it or not.

Haha. :)

The comment was that it is better to have sex then play a video game.

My point was that it depends.

Although it's mostly true, it's not always true.

For example, I'm pretty sure that Gladiator wished that he played a video game then run the risk of getting his potential psycho ex-fiance preggers.

:FRlol: got'cha!! i'm a little slow on the uptake, but i'm up to speed now...too many jim beams last night?? :)

It's becoming a chore playing through this campaign. Couple of cool moments here and there but the majority of the action is just so damn generic and repetitive I find myself rushing through to just finish it. They really need to change this shit up next time around and dig a little deeper.

Yea bro. The whole gameplay seems like a big clusterfuck with moments peppered in. Look of the game is really good though.
Gears 3 need to fucking bring that shit.

It won't be that tough to top Black Ops lol, at least gameplay wise.

I think the overall game play has been on par with all the other COD games.

I thought the inclusion of vehicle combat was a lot of fun.

Felt very anticlimactic at the end though, and that last level on the ship was just fuckin annoying.

The constant shaking and explosions seemed to be triggered when you popped into a room where the enemies could see you but you couldn't see them.

Wasn't really hard just annoying.

On to the MP.

I think I'll do a little recording before I have to return this piece.

Yeah, I thought that MW2 was more climatic. This one just got boring after awhile. The surprise in this one (ala Fight Club) was alot less dramatic then MW2 (where you died).

I did like the fight club twist though.

i played online today and about 30 mins of single player. The online mode doesnt seem to be as action packed as MW2, the audio is kinda weak. I dont know if i like the money system to unlock weapons

Does anyone know if an hdmi cable will reduce controller lag? I get a delay when moving and aiming

I like the money system, kinda like Counterstrike.

MP is wicked just like always.

In Combat training mode are you playing against Bots or real players??

no u ppl dont understand, im talking single player, their is a delay when i move and aim, ill press a button and like 1/4 second later it does the action,

i havent done combat training mode but i was owning after i switched to my ghetto tv, shit makes my eyes hurt tho

I must say aside from the technically underwhelming aspects of this series, the MP is pretty damn fun. I can see why people buy the game just for that. The problem is it seems the developers know this, so they figure it's an excuse to skimp on what they put into the campaign. Hell they probably don't have to do much to MP either and people would still be happy. I can see how it could get addicting; part of the reason I shy away from it lol. Damn if I had a few months to just play a game like this and nothing else I could pwn people to hell and back!

It's all about the MP.

it gets better the more you unlock also.

Yeah I know, but I really don't give a shit. I have a normal live account and then this account which is for epic trolling/lollerpussing on people in servers. I make all my buds from college laugh their asses off every night in party chat with my shenanigans. Right now I'm close to 90% of players avoiding me in my rep review on that account, LOL.
