Anyone drink wheat grass juice?

bloodinbloodout

New member
I have a ton of seeds and I want to start growing wheat grass. I've read that it is the most nutrient dense substance on earth, and is the closest thing to actually replicating human blood.

Anyone grow it, juice it, drink it? What are the effects, are they immediate. How much should I grow?

Thanks

Ricky W. is gonna have a lot of free time on his hands...I would try to get a hold of him...he could probably help you with any weed issues...

I have had it at Jamba Juice. I have considered growing my own but it looks like a lot of hassle.

How was it? I had it once somewhere and it was just horrific.

I can tell you it's probably not as bad as raw slimey egg whites. I'm in college and it's either microwaved egg whites or 10 seconds of hell in chugging a cup of them.

Some facts about it: (taken from
Wheat Grass Benefits
by Norene Anderson)

The list of wheat grass benefits begins with the basic component, chlorophyll. At about seventy percent of the grass being chlorophyll, it is vital to the health of the cell. It is estimated that a pound of wheat grass is equal to about twenty-three pounds of fresh garden greens. The only thing is, you must liquefy it before it can be consumed.

There are enzymes that are active in reducing the cells that form tumors. There are amino acids that are essential for the building of proteins. That in turn is necessary for cell repair, muscle tissue building, and blood clotting. It retains most of the minerals that are found in the soil. It also has a lot of vitamins in it. All of these are vital for the body to function at the best possible level.

Other Wheat Grass Benefits
Another of the wheat grass benefits is the ability to increase oxygenation throughout the body. This is done by building red blood cells that carry oxygen to every cell. It also acts to purify the blood and organs and helps destroy toxins in the body. The enzymes in the cells help in rejuvenation of the cells and wheat grass helps this process. The result of this is an increase in metabolism.

Apparently the juice is also an anti-bacteria which you can use on your skin to kill acne and rashes etc.

Being that we are all health and fitness freaks I think we can definitely suplement with this stuff. Best part about it is the seeds are fairly cheap and you can control the growing environment i.e. growing with completely organic soil etc.

Anyways thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

You can't just buy it? I know there are machines to make it. They don't sell it fresh in the produce section of an organic store?

You, can, but it is pretty costly...I buy the "green stuff" at whole food stores and just mix it in with my shakes, makes them look like St. Patty's day beer.

I buy the powdered stuff, I've tried the fresh frozen but the price was prohibitive and I can tell you the fresh frozen and powdered are similar in taste. You don't want to buy it as a liquid, ever. It's a potent antioxidant so it oxidizes pretty quick and loses it's "kick."

THE PROBLEM with wheat grass is getting a system for growing it. It's grass, so growing it isn't rocket science, but keeping the stuff healthy and free of mold IS an issue. Once you have a growing system down supposedly you're golden but it's the trick of developing a system that requires a little bit of diligence.

There are a couple of websites that describe various growing systems/contraptions you can buy or build. Just do a search "growing wheatgrass" you'll have plenty of reading material ;)

Do you have the real stuff like grass seed? Could you throw it in a bunch of little starter pots and grow it? I use it when I do my detox diets post competition season to clean out my system & sort of reset everything after a high protein / limited variety diet. I spend about a week on a juice diet (juiced vegetables & fruits,... not AAS "juice") - sometimes I can buy a bag of wheat grass from Whole Foods Market - damn expensive. This past summer when I went looking for it at the local Whole Foods in Atlanta they only had a flat of it still in the planter (just like starter plants or lawn plugs) that they were sellign for like $23. That was a bit goofy. So if you can grow it, then you'll have some replenishable stuff that you can throw in your juicer (if you have one) - by itself it tastes just like a grass stain, but if you throw in carrots or apples, its actually pretty good. REally good for you too!
