im quick to criticize anyone who does half squats in a suit of armor
yes his bench is awesome, you are right about that and 800 lbs is a hell of a lotta weight...but not too bad if its outta a mono-lift and you can train your CNS to handle that kind of weight.
Im just saying, his deadlift speaks volumes about his true power, which is still great for a 165er, but not anywhere near world class. The IPF world record deadlift for the JUNIOR 165 class is 740LBS, now that, that is fucking sick! Put an Inzer Leviathian on that kid and let him half squat.
Something is not right when your squat is 300LBS. more than your deadlift!!
here's my experience with a monolift btw:
about two years, i was doing my squat routine, which was going great i felt strong as hell. I wanted to try a max with just knee wraps and a belt. We setup 585 on a power rack. This was a 90lb jump over anything id ever done, so walking it out was a motherf*$&er. I missed the weight, but not by much. So i came up with the idea to set the bar on the rack pins at my shoulder height. I got under it, set up perfectly and lifted it, two guys slid the pins out and there i was nice and tight, didnt need to move an inch. Dropped to about 1-2" above parallel (which is apparently legal in most federations these days) and smoked the weight. I would have NEVER got this if it wasnt for the monolift setup, it makes a huge difference when using big weights. Hey put about $500 worth of gear on me now and im almost a 900lb squatter. No its not THAT easy but you get my drift?
Look, raw deadlifts and squats are almost always within 25-50lbs of each other, assuming the lifter is healthy. So how the fuck is every lifter in the WPO squatting 300lbs more than his deadlift? The answer(s) are:
1)crazy ass gear
2)bad judging
these guys are not THAT much stronger than all of us, they have LOTS of help
id be alot more impressed if Nick Hatch could squat 600 legally in a single ply poly suit than the other crap they call squats
