Anybody know this kid from Iowa

Man o man, there is a lot of hate in this room. Even if he's wearing squat pants and all that stuff, I'm impressed. His brother is enormous and he can't touch what Nick does. His brother is probably 240 @ 5'6" and just stacked. Naturally gifted guys who have a little help by way of pharmacies. lol

Look, raw deadlifts and squats are almost always within 25-50lbs of each other, assuming the lifter is healthy. So how the fuck is every lifter in the WPO squatting 300lbs more than his deadlift? The answer(s) are:
1)crazy ass gear
2)bad judging

these guys are not THAT much stronger than all of us, they have LOTS of help

id be alot more impressed if Nick Hatch could squat 600 legally in a single ply poly suit than the other crap they call squats

as an apf state chairmen and apf judge i take great offense to this. you know who else are apf judges? louie simmons, becca swanson, garry frank, and many other big name lifters. are you calling them hacks also?

and who said n.h. can't squat 600 in a single ply? i would bet $500 that he can. not everyone is built to bench, or to squat. nick is built for both. however he is NOT built for the deadlift. a taller more streamlined lifter is better equipped naturally to pull than someone who is 5'1" with short stubby hands (no offence to those with them lol)

what do you have to say about markus schickk? (i know i spelled his name wrong) i don't know his exact stats but i know he has a huge squat and decent bench if i remember, but i've never heard anything about his deadlift

and who's doing half squats? they're doing what is legally allowed in their respective federation. who's judging these record breaking lifts? other people who have competed at the elite level of the sport

there are raw divisions out there that would be happy to have you join them if that is what you desire. like your single ply? join the usapl

leave the negativity off the powerlifting forum, it's the last thing this sport needs

im sorry to have offended you, and i agree 100% that the last thing we need is negativity. But when the amount of your lift is determined by what you're wearing rather than how strong you actually are its just wrong.

i am a usapl lifter btw. And while alot of lifters dont like the fed because of how strict it can be, thats the point, if your not strong enough to lift it right, then you dont get the lift.

and no, not ALL the judging is bad, but you absolutly cant sit here and honestly tell me that there haven't been a good amount of record or big lifts in the past few years that should have never gotten whites.

you and i know that all the lifters in all these different federations will never agree on legal form, or equipment, so this discussion is pretty pointless, but im just passionate about it and my emotions get out of hand about it sometimes i guess :verygood:

again im sorry i offended you and no hard feelings eh

well, the equipment debate rages on

I think it "taints" today's lifters somewhat, to be able to get the assistance out of the gear they do. Rych is a BIG MOFO, but 1000+ lb BP? Please. That's insane. I think Mendelsen (and yeah, I phacked his name up bad) pushing 700+ raw is more impressive.

I dunno. Just a shame that old-school records are being "broken" by people who don't really have to be as strong, they just have better equipment

NOT SAYING THEY AREN'T STRONG. Having 1000 lbs in my hands would crush me, no matter WTF I was wearing. But you saw what happened at the Olympia. That type of thing happens to people wearing the (in MY opinion) excessive amount of assistance gear. he got out of the SHIRT'S groove (notice I didn't say 'his own groove') and he got crushed by the weight.

Some of those shirts are so tight that you have to pull 500 lbs to your chest. Am I the only one that sees that as odd?

now then, that being said, the same people would probably still dominate today's powerlifting, they would just adjust their technique. Tons and tons of insane work (and balls the size of competition-sized basketballs) are required to move that much weight, without a steel crane of some sort. So kudos to them.

But there is a reason that, in the last decade, the squat record has jumped by 200, the bench record has jumped by 300, and the deadlift record has jumped by....34.

something is amiss. Can't blame the lifters, hell, they're doing what I would do in their situation. Can't blame Inzer and metal militia, etc, they're making a buck. Ah, whatever.

kudos to the strong mofo's who move that weight, no matter what they're wearing.

absolutely no hard feelings man. i respect everyone's opinion as they are entitled to it. it's good to stand up for what you believe in, but try not to belittle someone elses accomplishments. give them kudos for what they have done, with what they did it with

i would never disagree that you can't compare a single ply poly squat to a double canvas squat. that's not the point. it's not apples to apples

just like the usapl is drug free and the wpo is not tested

i have a couple friends who compete in the usapl and i go their meets and support all of the lifters there, not just my friends. and i'm starting to ramble now so i'll shut up

but again, no hard feelings bro and i still have much respect for you as i do for almost all serious lifters
