Anybody have a big dog in an apartment!

Thanks Musclemom,

With my wife being home 5 days a week, and I am home 3 days a week, the dog would not be left alone much. The two days my wife works, I would just not work as long then. As far as the chew toy deal, yeah I totally hear you. We would have to invest money in chew type things.

My in-laws live pretty close to where I work and have a back-yard. I could also take her in the back-yard when I work so she isn't in a apartment all day.
Ahhhhhh, that's a whole different ball of wax! The way your original post read it sounded like the pup would be alone all day.

You're absolutely correct, big dogs do just as well, if not better, than small ones in apartments. They generally are calmer than small breeds so if they're not actually doing something they snooze (and speaking as someone who works from home, the dog will be nice company for your wife).

Yeah, you really, really cannot underinvest in chew toys with labs. And get into the habit of putting your shoes away in a closet now. In fact, think "Baby Proof." Seriously. Mouthy dogs have been known to eat the god-damndest things, from chair and table legs to sofa cushions and stereo speakers.

I know some big dogs do better in apartments than others. I have a dobie, which is a working dog and he needs to be outside kind of patrolling the yard a few times per day. He also needs plenty of exercise, so i walk him and take him to the park every day. IMO, (and I'm an excellent dog dad if I do say so myself) the exercise and park time are the most important. It's when you and the dog bond the most. If you live in an area with shitty weather, it gets hard to do that and the dog could get some behaviour problems.
