I want to do that with a Weapon-R but there isn't a kit for my car that works w/o jerry rigging something. I may come back to that in the future but for now I just went with a K&N air filter as a stock replacement. I don't want to go gangster but I want to lower mine about 3.5cm, put on some bigger rims, tint, new plug/wires, etc.Peter_North said:I was thinking of putting a cold air intake on my car. It gives a littel HP and also is supposed to increase MPG. I'm still debating on getting rid of it for a newer truck so I can haul my toys around easier.

I'd do all that except the lowering. installing a high flow exhaust is an easy way to make your vehicle slower... unless it's a diesel.heavy_duty said:i got the cold air ready to install on mines and some flow masters

it's a pretty easy google search to the negative effects of decreasing back pressure without any other real modifications.heavy_duty said:Yah OK
Tell that to the time clock at the end of my track

Pretty much inline with what I'm thinking. Intake, Eibach or Intrax springs to drop it 1.5", might have to change struts, 17" rims, tint, plugs & wires, maybe fogs. I'm not messing with exhaust since a 4-cyl will probably sound like a suitcase full of bees. I think I saw a performance chip somewhere. I don't really have an interest in ground effects kits for myself.NickyE3 said:cosmetic - tint, lower it a couple inches, with new wheels (that is all I would do)
performance - new intake, full exhaust headers and all, new spark plugs and wires, new throttle body, and see if there is a performance chip available

I don't care about audio volume but I do need a new head unit and front speakers; probably apply a little Dynamat here and there.

It's no fun to play with any NA engines is it? My favorite thing to play with was my 230hp SeaDoo. Handling mods, intake and exhaust and that thing would go 0-70 in 4 seconds or so.Basikstylz said:True... but it really depends on the vehicle. Some cars are to restrictive at stock some are not. Generally any turbo car can benefit by getting bigger piping, high flow cat, and muffler. Same goes for most vehicles with larger engines.
Howerver on cars with less power that are NA they need the back pressure to keep the power up.
So yes you're right to a degree.
silverstar1025 said:Not engine mods, but always do body kits, rims, and springs.

RottenWillow said:You immediately associated tuners with "ricers". You do know they're not neccesarily the same thing, right?
dabuffguy said:If you tune a 4 cylinder import from japan, you're a ricer. "Ricer" is a term reffering to the japanese. But, you can still "rice out" american cars byt putting ridiculous body kits on them and having 2 foot high aluminum sopoilers from pep boys. Not one fucking car on the street needs an aluminum spoiler. all 4 cylinder cars (with exeption to the STI which is a boxer engine) all sound total shit. I always ask people if there is a wasps nest stuck in their exhaust pipe. I always get the finger for that.

Basikstylz said:Actually... most turboed 4 cylinders (early model eclipse/talon, Evo, hell even the Neon SRT) can give you a deeper sound. Nothing like a muscle car, but deffinetly better than a civic or focus.

straight pipe GSX/TSI sound like tractors, kind of, at idle. 4g63 have an ok sound to them (same block as the evo).
Back in high school I drove a 3000gt VR-4. those sounded decent, but they are 6-cylinder TT. have a more exotic sound to them vs muscle or rice. ut definitely not like a ferrari/lotus/lambo type of its day.
Fast cars are my passion along with bbing and drumming.

silverstar1025 said:Man the M5 is QUICK stock! We test drove one once and I nearly pissed my pants. We didn't even realize until after the test drive that there was a M button that made it even faster. I could not imagine. My hubby always screws around racing people, but we don't have a modded or super fast car.
dabuffguy said:They are fast. My mustang is quite a bit faster actually. Of course it has more than 200hp over a stock mustang, and weighs 600 lbs less than the M5. Still, the M5 is FAST for anyone. The M5 would hand the mustang it's ass on a road course though. Not even a contest there.
silverstar1025 said:Yeah I love that car a lot! Hubby has his eyes set on the GTR though.
No kidding! It looks good too. I checked it out at the car show not long ago. It's a sexy car. Hubby has always loved the skyline so he is always watching vids on youtube drooling over it.dabuffguy said:Can't buy a better car than that for the money in all aspects of performance. I'm an american/european car guy, but damn the new GTR is overly impressive. Super fast, and handles like a dream.
manny78 said:M5 barkes are a joke (or any M). 2 pistons front, one rear.... wtf ?
Look at the new C63 AMG instead. Faster and a real muscle car.
dabuffguy said:The C63 is a 2-door. M5 and E63 are 4 door cars. Sedans will never be muscle cars. The enigineering involved in the M5's engine is much more impressive. Not saying the AMG engineers aren't good, because they are exceptional, but anyone can make a V8 have 500+ HP with a supercharger.
# of pistons doesn't make a difference if 2 has clamping force that surpasses necessity. I don't think the engineers at M just cheaped out. The rotors are cross drilled 14.7" they are BIG. Ever get in a new M5 and slammed on the brakes from 60mph? It knocks the wind out of you it stops so fast. The brakes are phenomenal.
manny78 said:C63 is 4 door. CLK63 IS 2 door lol
And the C63 engine isnt supercharged at all. It's NA.
And the brake sucks. 2 pistons front with miserable cooling ? There's a reason why Brembo kits are so popular among M owners. The only BMW with a decent brake kit is the 135i (6 pistons front, 4 rear).

squatmonkey said:I've got a bad ass 1984 Pontiac sunbird with a cold-air intake and staight exhaust. Im thinking about putting nitrous on it, but its pretty fast just like it is. Its about 125whp and 0 to 60 in about 2 minuntes.

RottenWillow said:If you just want straight line acceleration, save 20k and get a 335i. During street starts I've gotten 0 to 60 in the low 5's. 1k for a piggy back chip and it's as quick as the M5.

dabuffguy said:My mustang stock does 5.1 to 60, and I paid 26K for that. Shit, for a nice 335I you could buy a corvette, and those bitches are way faster to. It's not all about straight line for me. It's fun, but it gotta have style. an M5 isn't exactly the most stylish, but it's got the "I have an M5 factor". I guess I'm like that.
