Another TJ nightmare

First of all, I want to apologize to all the good bro's I've teased for being afraid to buy supplies in Tijuana. I've been crossing the border at least twice a year for the past ten years, and have never had any problems whatsoever. This led me to assume that bro's who got hassled by the federales or got caught at customs were somehow negligent. Now I know better.

Bear in mind, I'm a middle-aged guy and look like it, and this usually confers some degree of respectibility. Customs never gives me a second look.

I was going to spend Thanksgiving with friends in San Diego, so I decided to take the opportunity to make a quick run for the border first thing in the morning, be in and out and avoid the crowds. I figured 90minutes tops. Including clearing customs.

I didn't have time to shop for prices, so I purchased three bottles of Denkal var at the granero closest to the border. Popped all the little peach pills in zip lock and hid it on my body. I then walked up the street to my favorite farmacia and found that the had 2% Nizoral (lemyken brand) for less then $5. so I stocked up and bought 6. I also bought six boxes each of clomid and tamoxifin. (BTW was disappointed to see that the nolvadex brand of tam was going for nearly $1/tab. I asked if the had anything cheaper and they came up with a brand in a red/white box where the 20mb tabs were about .40/tab.)

That's an awful lot of tabs to pop, so I decided to hold off and do it at the bus station. As I was approaching Revolucion, a young fed stopped me and demanded to look in my bag, then got irate because I don't speak english. An english speaking fed arrived soon and I explained that the bag contained nothing but shampoo and drugs to help my non-existant wife get pregnant. The bag was admittedly pretty full of stuff, which prompted them to keep shouting "too many, too many!"

When I go to TJ, I always carry cash in my sock, but by this time I had already spent nearly $300 on var and $120 on farmacia goodies, so I didn't bother sticking what little money I had left in my sock.

I was extremely polite, but stood firm that the drugs they had found in the bag were not narcotics or otherwise illegal to possess. (I was confident they couldn't find the var. ) Anyway, when it became obvious I wan't going to be shaken down, they put me in their car and drove around for about 30 minutes, (seemed like hours), then pulled into an alley and did a thorough body search. They even made me drop trow, (no cavity search)but I figured they were just trying to intimidate me. They kept saying they were going to take me to see a judge, and I kept say, fine, let's go, I've done nothing illegal here. Then two, count 'em, two, more police cars pulled up and they all had a look at me. They never actually illicted a bribe, and never even hinted at me paying a fine right there, which they had done years when a cop claimed I had run a red light.

Finally they got tired of fucking around and getting nowhere, so they did another body search and this time came up with a foil ball containing powder. I nearly shit my pants. I never imagined they would steep so low as to actually plant drugs on me. Visions of Turkish prisons flashed before my eyes, and for the first time in my life, I actually felt my legs shaking.

Finally I remembered that I had already spent most of my money (duh!), so I opened my wallet and offered up all of about $50. They started screaming $50 is nothing! so I pointed out that's all I had. They took the money and told me to get my ass back across the border ASAP or they'd arrest me again. And they let me keep my bag of goodies.

I needed to calm down, so I walked back to the granero and told them what had happened. They went fucking apeshit, saying this shit was ruining their business and the owner was friends with the police commisioner. Anyway, I chilled out by spending the next 20 minutes in their bathroom popping all those pills out of their packages, then hid them with the var. This was about noon on Thanksgiving, so I was able to walk through the border without any wait.

First lesson, don't walk around TJ with a heaping bag from a farmacia. Might as well have painted a target on my back. Hide everything on your person before leaving the store. Many farmacias will let you use their restroom for this.

Find a better place than your socks or shorts to hide you money and gear. These assholes did a fairly thorough search and if I'd hidden anything in either place they would have found it.

I love visiting Mexico and will surely do it again soon. But next time I'm not gonna be so cocky about it.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

Bro, I've been trying hard to emphasize this to people here - the game has changed heavily. You are among a number of vets to the TJ scene who have had trouble in recent years. Imagine now why I say if a veteran has trouble - why a newbie shouldn't even try the game.

Unfortunately, one dumbass kid goes down and flies underneath the radar... and then posts up on the boards here how easy it is to score in TJ. He was too blind stupid to know he was swimming with the sharks.

Farmacias get shaken down in turf wars between crooked cops and shop keepers who don't want to pay protection money for their customers. I'll guarantee you the shop you purchased at got a visit later that day letting them know that for $$$ they wouldn't have that problem again.

Good ol' TJ. Yes, old or young, vet or newbie...you can always get harassed. Don't go down there thinking they aren't paying attention to you. There is quite the network down there, and it's run very efficiently.

kbrkbr,

You mentioned you held the var on your body , but then you say they did a body search and didn't find anything. Where the hell did you put them?

Excellent idea... obviously someone who understands that smuggling is only as good as your worst-kept secret.

Thanks for posting this Bro.

This should be a lesson to all of the loud-mouth guys who think they are badasses and who talk trash like "hey I KNOW Mexican law".

The law is the law. And reality is reality. And the reality is that Mexcio is a Third world country. There is a lot of corruption. Bad attitudes, and arrogant kids create problem for everyone. And even IF you are cool, and respectful (as it sound like this guy was) you are STILL at risk.

I laugh when i read kids respond to threads like this by saying "hey I know my rights and I would have told that cop that I know the law and he cant do shit ......... etc etc etc".

Yeah .... right ....... when you are in some alley, with the Feds around you, and they are searching you, and ready to plant evidence, and haul your ass off to jail ..... let see how "badass" you are. LOL

KBR - Thanks again for posting this hopefully some guys will learn from it. Sadly, many will not.

I know of abou 3 names which I am sure will jump on this thread a talk trash now. Let's watch and laugh.

Maybe. This would be a first offense for me, so I doubt I'd get jail time if caught with a small personal stash.

But hey, at least it would be an American jail where I'd have some rights.

the point is..

jail sucks!!
i dont care if its a day or a month.
never again for me! lol.

i got busted for buying xanax once and it was a very scary experience. i got off with a warning and they took the pills. it was enough to prevent me from ever doing it again and i live in san diego.

i have been stunned at the callousness of some of the posters on this board saying it is a piece of cake getting thru. it has gotten way worse since 9/11.

it makes NO sense to go thru disgusting tijuana to buy gear when you can have it mailed to your house. i have never compared the prices but the savings are not worth it.

ya i am done with mexico and boarder nonsense

i had a friend who a newbie in TJ go over there and some guy told him he could find steroids and my friend followed him and lead him into some shit hole and robbed his ass

he was somewhat smart and put 20 in his wallet and the other money between the sole and cushion support of his shoes...

Well I was just there yesterday (though I have been dozens of times, and about 10 times now since 9/11), and yes things have changed...but the risk was always there before...Its a risk vs. reward, and if someone knows what they are doing (and weighs those risks beforehand) then they know what they are possibly getting in to...

Is is worth it imo...Not really....but sometimes one can get desperate (and if they know how it goes down there the risks are minimized greatly...)

I have been making the voyage down south since the early 1990's, and I agree that it is worth the risk (to me). Things have changed drastically in recent years, and it is much more difficult (but not impossible). This tale should be a lesson to everyone - don't ever walk out of a pharmacy or granero holding anything!

I was down there the day before Thanksgiving. I found some great prices and even had the opportunity to discuss some new and upcoming products at my favorite granero. All things considered, it was a great trip :)

Please do not email or PM for any tips or tricks. I am not giving away anything that continues to work well for me.
