Anabolics and Rehab

visions

New member
Has anybody here had or heard of either negative or positive experiences with using anabolics while recovering from a surgically repaired muscle.

I had a labrum, rotator repair in my right shoulder almost 7 months ago and am about 10 degrees away from active full range of motion. I can acheive full passive range of motion with the assitance of my therapist so clearly it is due to the lack of strength so I have considered doing a cycle but am definitely worried about playing with the natural healing process of my shoulder.

Any suggestions, advice or personal experiences shared would be greatly appreciated!

Visions.

Your rotator is primarily a stabilizing muscle. IMO the gear would put you at high risk for injuring it again because of the sarounding muscles ability to carry a heavy load while your ratator would not be able to support it. I would wait till you each at least 75-80% of your recovery or about 6 months.

"I had a labrum, rotator repair in my right shoulder almost 7 months ago" So do you think now that I am 7 months removed I would still be at risk?

Depends on how you feel and how slow you are going to take it. Im not going to say yes or no because with out looking at your form (from head to toe) during some lifts as well as your endurence vs strength in that area there is no way to give you a good recomendation. What has your workouts and rehab looked like over the last 7 months? What percentage of you previous strength level are you at for say a 20-25 repetion set db shoulder press and db bench press. Have you been doing any exercises specificlly for the muscles of the rotator? Do you feel any pain during bech press? If so at what point/%of range of motion? If it helps Ill let you know what Im doing for mine. I have a tear of the supraspinatus which is going to require surgury. I am waiting till the end of my football season to get it. I have every intention of waiting 9 months to a year of exercise with my full range of motion before I do another cycle. Im on one now and had to turn it into a cutting cycle because of this injury. I didnt want to risk doing more damage by going heavy. I havnt done a set of less that 20 reps in two months.

I had my labrum repaired about 2 yrs ago and i was really into wakeboarding and tore it again about a yr after my surgery. then i worked it out really hard with no gear for about 5 months and restored some surrounding muscle then took a cycle of dbol and deca and my arm feels so much better! i can actually throw a baseball and do things i havent been able to do for years

I also have a 60% suprispinatus tear and a full labrul tear. Over the course of the past 7 months I have done every rehab excercise known to man, I have isolated the shoulder joint in all planes of movement.

My strength before my surgery was decent, I'm 5'10 180 and I was doing supine, incline, and shoulder DB press in between 75-100 lbs. Now I have regained a great deal of strength below shoulder level and have no chronic pain going about any of my daily functional activities. I tried some benching with some 10's on there and was able to move through full range of motion pain free but really have no interest in continuing to bench press due to the shoulder history.

My true weakness comes from Bilateral DB shoulder presses, I'm doing 10's right now and have a difficult time working in the full range of motion, I have a hard time straigtening my elbow to acheive the last 10 degrees of range of motion, sometimes I feel like I'm screwed forever. Right now that and both shooting a basketball and throwing are the most difficult for me, otherwise I feel good.

This is extremely frustrating and I just want to get back to functioning on a normal level.

Thanks for the replys. :)

Have you had a procedure to repair the supraspinatus. Sounds like it may need to be scoped. You will never be able to do shoulder press agin comfortablly until it is repaired or replaced. As for your main question. Man i say dont push it till everything in your shoulder has been taken care of. Good luck.

Sometimes I wonder if anybody reads anything before posting around here :)

First of all Ive never heard of a labrum and second if you had it repaired y did you say you "HAVE" a 60% tear. I do read.

I meant had, my bad. The labrum is a muscle that wraps around the joint to prevent the joint from anteriorly dislocating during external rotation. For example if you were to throw a baseball with no labrum your shoulder would just pop out of the socket in the front of the shoulder.
