A serious training question, to add variety

It's common to deadlift about the same weight you squat?

I'm currently at about 250lbs for each... (5x5) which strikes me as unusual, since my back is way underdeveloped when compared to my legs...

I think legs are doing more than their share in those deadlifts... I have checked form many times and it seems correct: straight back, etc.

it depends, of course, but you should be dl'ing more than you squat.

are you doing both on separate days, or in same workout?

there are no hard and fast rules but, I'd say that you should be be lifting at least 25% more in a 1 rep in dl than squat.

Eh, I definitely Deadlift and Squat more than I bench. I deadlift more than I squat. Everyone is different but for the most part bench should be weaker. Squat and Deadlift it a toss-up from person to person.

agreed, i have long arms - i'm 6'3'', and my squat is only a little higher than my flat bench, but my dl is 100lbs more.

everyone is different, but dl'ing heavy takes time to get your form right.

good luck, pintoca

not if you wrap your knees when you sq...

I've only ever done this a few times, and I don't really see the need, unless you are a proper powerlifter, and or peaking in a training cycle on squating (yes, i do know a bit about training)...

besides, using that same logic, I could also bench more with a vest....but this doesn't really count, as I assume that pintoca is talking about normal, everyday lifting...

for heavy triples and singles their is a safety need, i believe. for me, they increase my sq, thus roughly equalizing my dl=sq. my point, i'm similiar to pintoca.

are you looking right ahead, or staring up at the ceiling, are you keeping ur back really straight and lowering your ass and squatting it up on the dl and minimally moving the back, or are u starting with ur ass fairly high and using more back (not straight leg thats different)

and alot of peoples dls are ALOT higher than their squat, and some visa versa, u cant really generalize

id say of avarage lifters who dont PL, i see them squatting less than their dl, but for huge plers who squat 1000s obviously their dead is less

I squat more. Did before my fatass break at least. I always have grip issues.
IMGHO if your training to train ur dl and size etc, just use straps, and work grip separately for function, unless u need ur grip to be awsome when u deadlift like for a comp or something

It's not so unusual. A lot can depend on how deep you squat. Are you breaking parallel or, even, going ATF - so low that that your hamstrings are squashed against your calves? Are you Deadlifting in Conventional style or some Sumo variant?

With equipment, the top powerlifting records for Bench and for Squat are higher than the Deadlift record but they are with bench shirts and power suits and knee wraps. With knee wraps on I can break parallel but I can't get down to ATF depth.

Lots of variables and everyone has different bio-mechanical advantages and disadvantages. I think most people who work both lifts can, without equipement, deadlift more than they can squat but it's not universal.
