Can anyone explain the point of that? It is a ton of weight but not going down all the way?

Board presses are particularly useful to gain strength on a particular range of motion stage. For example if workout with a thick board you will be able to use more weight, then by progressively using thinner boards you will be able to increase the range of motion of that exercise until you are able to do a full rep!

It works wonder on your strength and is very good to burst through plateaus.
 
Thats an interesting idea -- but pretty much what I do when I am about dead on chest -- put on some weight and do half reps... or decline reps...
