Got a parking ticket in my own driveway.

We all have that kind of thing happen sometimes, and there are 2 choices: fight it or pay it. When I'm faced with that, I consider how much time it might take to fight it, and how much money is my time worth out of the business day... That doesn't fix the anger we feel though. Cops are humans, and maybe that one didn't get laid the night before, and was suffering blue ballz, or maybe the Department of Building & Safety condemned his furnace... Who knows, but if you believe in karma, you can wind up thinking of this as a benefit somehow.

And although you have been parking that way for a long time, and you probably weren't blocking anybody (as long as you didn't see a disabled veteran wheeling his way out into the street to go around, etc), you were morally doing nothing wrong and don't deserve a ticket or any hassle. But technically, what can I say. There's a traffic signal on Hwy 118 near our ranch, which is always red for no reason. I can see flat, plain and clear for miles that there is no traffic, so I run the light routinely. But I know that some day, I'll get a ticket. That's my choice, and I won't be angry when it happens.

this made me lolz

I do the same at a red light near work...no one around ever at that time of day and if I fail to nail the emergency vehicle plate in the ground hard enuff and it doesnt change the thing is like 5 minutes long...so I look around...and bolt

I'll be pissed when I get caught, but at myself for being so impatient

Those May 1st no parking snow rules are lame. At least around here they let you park on either the odd or even side of the street depending on snow fall.

I think the problem ultimately results from the sidewalk not being associated enough with the road. If sidewalks were simply closer to the road and done in such a way that made them different from the driveway (different pavement coloring, etc) it would be obviously where the whole public/private line was.

I've seen some people leave their bumper hanging off the end of the driveway into the street on a street with no parking. Now THOSE people deserve to be ticketed. But yea, peds can walk around it. Cyclists, they might smack into your car/truck and put a big dent in it.

LoL @ pwned by the government on your own land...

Even if you own your house you still have the government as your landlord and master.. :)

Don't get me started  ! I have a thick file folder with a huge fight going on for 18 months now, because I put a mobile home for storage purposes on a 20-acre farm in Ventura County. It's connected to a legal, permitted septic tank, and legal, permitted electrical and water. But it's "too close to a federally protected waterway", and they want us to do $25,000 in environmental studies to see if the mobile home will hurt fish. What really pisses me off, is that the property tax we paid JUST THIS YEAR ALONE, is more than the mobile home, transportation and installation combined, and they still have to get their way with us. Oh yes, and another thing: The county says it's illegal for our house not to have a garage, but we can't get a permit to build one because they adjusted the floodplain lines and even though our house is high up ontop of a hill, overlooking the entire valley below, they are saying it is going to get flooded and they can't be liable for us building a garage on our own property.

It's all about pumping money out of the rectum by force; has nothing to do with public safety or environmental protection.

I would except there are cars that occupy it already.

wtf? you guys got a fleet??

oh and, you ARE parked on the sidewalk.

i agree on the police thing though. . .the ones in my town are a bunch of pussies too. . .afraid of confrontation with real criminals, so they ride around writing tickets that the meter maids should be writing. hell, they won't even write a speeding ticket. . .they're afraid someone will yell at them if they pull them over.

And this is exactly why it pissed me off so much. Felt like freedom all of the sudden became a thought instead of a reality.

I get that. But it was at my own house. It's completely absurd.

It's not your house; it's your parent's. Notwithstanding, your parents don't own the sidewalks; the city does. You parked on their property, so they ticketed you in accordance to the laws you agreed to when you became a licensed driver.

I don't see what's so difficult here.
