And I disagree with OMEGA, it makes a lot of valid points to critisize society...you know it's not really about aliens, but about the act of "alienation" and how society alienates people who are different....it's got a good msg and it's a good movie...the best thing about it is that the actors are not known...

I agree completely it was a fantastic look at what would actually happen in that situation. It's also sad to think that some of the most oppressed people in history would assume the role of the oppressor so easily.

the movie got mixed reviews...some people loved it, some people hated it. i haven't seen it but it's blatantly obvious that the portrayal in the trailers seemed to be one of alot more action etc than it was a serious, drawn out film.

i think most people were expecting to see non stop alien fighting and robot mechs except in escape from LA/NY style
 
First half of the movie was like watching mollasses drip off a table. As soon as the shooting started though the movie did the greatest 180 in the history of cinema. The best acting in the movie was actually Mr. Chris, or whatever the alien's name was. But the other dude didn't "too bad", especially once the movie picked up. I'm sorry, anyone that doesn't appreciate the sight of a room full of african warlord thugs getting tornado cannon'ed out the house along with the house itself just doesn't appreciate cinema. The alien weaponry in this movie is sublime. How anyone couldn't be impressed once the humans' started getting their shit ruined, especially the metal suit.....jesus christ, I was peeing myself for like 50 minutes straight. Total cacklefest going on in the back corner of the theater..:lmao:

I found it to be incredibly stupid that a race as advanced as ones being able to travel faster then light, could be content with eating cat food, and living in the ghetto and not rebelling sooner.....

The aliens were a slave caste and not the dominate specie on the original ship. Hence the reason most of them weren't able to figure out the technology. It would be like giving an African bushman a laptop and expecting him to figure it out. Also since they were a slave caste why would they rebel when they were no longer forced to work? Remember when they first cut into the ship and all of them were just huddled in that room with little to no food? So being allowed out and being fed for free would almost be like total freedom even though they were quarantined. Also if you understand the social atmosphere of South Africa the commentary was brilliantly put forth in an understated manner.

The prawns operated on sort of a hive mentality like bees or other insects. Once their leader was killed, they wander around aimlessly until a new leader (Christopher Johnson) from the pack emerges. As with any other insect species, that takes time.

So every story should be oversimplified just so people who don't understand how to connect a premise can feel better about themselves?

He was an enlightened slave hence the lack of support from his fellow xenomorphs.

Were it me it would be a mission to extract my people and exact a certain level of vengeance for the medical experiments and exploitation.

I need to see that, the story is too cool. I've always liked Viggo, he's done a lot of different roles and always just buries himself in the role. He made A History of Violence worth watching.

Ya Ive always liked him, but never saw what the big deal was regarding his LOTR role. I first noticed him in GI Jane where he was legit.

His performance in The Road is outstanding. Robert Duvall shows up for 5 minutes and fucking pwns as well.
 
2012 had amazing cinematics and great visual effects....but that's pretty much all it had going for it

I just watched Old Dogs todays...it's a feel good movie and I recommend it if you're looking for a quick laugh

I'm watching "Precious" next....that's a good social documentary of the bacl women that you don't see in the movies and Mariah Carey apparetnly gets praise for NOT being a ditse...she's a good supporting actor...it's an Oprah Winfrey film

One of the best movies I saw this year: Law Abiding Citizen....Gerrard butler is fantastic

I see about 2-3 movies a week, so yes I'm a geek like that

that's what I'm sayin. And what's this about man crushing on gerard butler? He's had one good role as Leonidas, I've been fairly unimpressed with him since. And didn't he just do some stupid romantic comedy? The man is Clive Owen. All of you need to check out BMW films, it's a series of shorts with him as the lead character in every one of them.
 
I personally kinda like Butler, but hes been making a bunch of horrible choices post-300. The only movie of his that was halfway good since then is Rocknrolla. If he doesnt straighten himself out, Sam Worthington will take the title of the next respectable action hero...a title that Butler obviously wants.

number one action star in hollywood right now is still Bale. Butler's only defining role so far was 300, but that movie was awesome because of the collection of actors...not "just" him. If he get's a recurring role like Batman, than maybe. Heck, I forgot about Downey....he's probably as big or real close to Bale. Owen is still my favorite of all of them, I think he's the best actor among them with Bale being a real close second.

Bale is another good. I loved Edward Norton movies, but he hasn't been in a lot of movies lately.

Norton can be anything he wants, probably the most talented actor in hollywood period. I don't know if you know the show "modern family", but the episode he was in had me falling out when his character showed up. It was absolutely classic. He's a good sport. He played a bandmember of some 80's one hit wonder group. The group photo of him with his bandmember was classic, if I could find it....it would be the wallpaper on my phone...lol

I wouldnt consider Bale an action star...and Im sure he doesnt want to be seen as one either. Hes mainly known for his role in 1 franchise. Using that logic, it would be fair to say Matt Damon is a bigger action star than he is.

The only true legit action start currently IMO is Jason Statham. The Rock had his chance but decided to do bullshit Disney kids movies.

1. D9 = kinda meh, overall. the weapons were cool, probably the coolest part, but not enough to carry the flick. lol at social commentary. thanks, i didn't see all the subtle layers worth appreciating! apartheid? what's that...oh, i get it! clever.

2. i read the road, on 73rd's recommendation. good book, will see the film soon.

3. 2012 was all about the visuals, on a big screen. story, dialogue, acting...well, it's a hollywood blockbuster. 'nuff said.

4. butler's cool. i enjoyed the romantic comedies like the ugly truth and ps i love you. in summary: i'm an easily-amused fag.

5. don't take film advice from asians.

6. law-abiding citizen was ok...i enjoyed the brutality. as a movie, nothing spectacular.

7. i want clash of the titans to be good, but the trailer didn't look especially kick-ass.
