Has anyone else had their home broken into while they were home? It's been 6 weeks but I'm still scared. I'm paranoid as hell running around making sure the doors and windows are locked. I have installed alarms on my doors. I lock my bedroom door when I go to sleep and keep a gun under the bed. I also installed a phone jack and put a new phone in my bedroom. I get frightened when I hear noises. Considering that I live in a townhouse with neighbors on both sides, there's a lot of various noises. I can hear the neighbors walking around. I'm never sure if the noise is someone inside my place or if it's coming from the neighbors. I wonder if these paranoid feelings will go away.
I will say that I was pleased with my insurance company's handling of my claim (State Farm). They replaced a lot of the electronics through their own wholesaler which I'm sure saves them money but in cases where the model of the item that was stolen is no longer available, they replaced it with an equivalent model. As electronics tend to get better over time, the newer equivalent model is often an upgrade from what I previously had. So, I got some better electronics. Of course I had to pay $500 for the deductible. I'm just glad I had the policy.
