i think ford is gonna get pwnt

binö

Rob of Redford
Platinum
and i feel for the company.
pretty noble not taking taxpayer money when it could
easily get in on the gorging.
but sales are teetering, down almost 25% from last may.
a limited reserve of liquid cash.
i have a feeling when it comes time to either get bailed out
or go bankrupt the general pop. is gonna be so disgusted by
auto-handouts that helping ford out won't be politically platable for obama and co. and ford will be left twisting in the wind.

sucks, they've actually been making some decent cars/trucks now too.

fuel pump needs replacing at 60k and the company is garbage!!
i had to replace the tie-rods at 100k, never buying a ford again!

mentaility of the typical d3 basher imo, mechanical naivity

my wifes had a few fords, they always seemed to be mechanically sound. The interior was a little "blah" for my tastes, but they're much better now.

Chrysler IMO is shit though as far as reliability is concerned. The lx platform has a lot of problems w/front suspension (tie rods, tension struts, steering rack" etc..

I don't think so. And I hope not.

Check out this poll though, bodes well for Ford:

"Fifty-one percent (51%) of all Americans say they are more likely to buy a car from Ford because it did not take bailout funding from the government."

Rasmussen Reports™: The Most Comprehensive Public Opinion Data Anywhere

i'm not an economist but i know ford has a limited cash reserve.
coupled with slow ass sales (you think they'll get better?) and a supossive flood of discounted chryslers/gms hitting the market, from my view it doesn't look like ford can survive the storm.
why do you think otherwise? imo the americans you post of represent a small percent of the pop.

I think you see this all wrong bino, Ford is going to come out golden on this. In 5 years they're going to be the only american car manufacturer. Yeah, Government motors might still be around......but that ship is gonna list to port for decades. I mean they're selling Hummer to the chinese.......they're done. It will take at least 10 years to get financially right and then another 5-10 to successfully rebrand. They are so far behind the R&D curve it's ridiculous. If Ford just keeps it's head down, when this recession is over they're tits.

How about a new transmission at 68,000? Big difference between the cost of a new fuel pump and a new transmission. kthxdie

I think it is inevitable.

but can they last that long.
it seems unfair that usa cars have to compete with
foreign made cars truely made overseas where the companies
aren't restricted by enviro costs/health care/respectable wage...i'd be down with leveling that field via tariff
(but not for foreigns made in the usa)

ironically the cars that are making honda and toyota do so well here are manufactured here. My carolla was made by american workers. Yeah, Toyota's high end cars come from overseas. But the cars that americans want right now.......the budget cars that get good gas mileage, are predominantly being made here. I think even the prius is made here, not sure.

i disagree with that, though i read about this supposive demand for the lil car that hums and costs 30k...i'm not saying or hearing about this demand from anyone i know.
nor am i seeing it on the road...

i had to replace the engine in my 2001 jeep wrangler.. but i didn't mind, it cost $1500 and that was for an engine, radiator, hoses, and the labor to install it..

and that was 4 yrs ago.. rode hard and put up wet.. sold it at 136k miles on the vehicle.. got $7000 for it.. I'm happy.. will i buy another one?? nope not with gas going back to $4 gallon and crysler on the heels of bankruptcy.. no thanks..

honda or toyota..

I don't want one of Obama's cars that will be coming out soon. screw that not even if it was issued to me..

30k? try 18-24k. Those are the cars that toyota and honda are cleaning up the americans with. The lease rates on those cars are so pimp. And the demand is only going to rise. Maybe where you're at people still don't mind stopping off at the pump every second day........but in the rest of the country people are seriously worried about fuel costs. We're experiencing a reprieve right now, but it's climbing again.

so you're talking about the corrolla/camry, that size car?
then agreed.
but if you're talking about the subcompact demand, then i say there is little demand...

subcompacts? what, the go karts you have to hand wind before you get in??

LOL@ ford

My wife had a 96 Mercury cougar XR7 loaded
BIGGEST POS EVER

My business has owned 3 ford vans and all had tranny issues

I hate old fords

but would buy a new focus or edge

when i said the either day, about the cars that GM was gonna make that nobody wanted, that's what i was talking about.
in my opinion the gov is gonna push that on GM, GM is gonna make these little cars that nobody wants, and fail.
there was a pic on drudge the other day of this new GM sorta car

increased fuel economy standards, and imminent GHG emissions standards def. won't be helping ford either lol

the standards are also why you're gonna see a lot more smaller cars that nobody wants

the camry is not in the corolla's class, it's definitely a step above. The american comapnies need to make cars that compete in that class........cars that can be had for real good lease rates or can be bought 5-6 years old for 10-12k. Toyota's and Honda's have historically been able to run FOREVER as long as you keep up the oil changes. My buddy who's down in Cinci right now has had his accord for like 10 years, and he bought it with 50-60k on it. He's had some limited work done to it........the thing is a warhorse. That's how cars ought to be made.

a unscrupulous management could build a fleet of go-karts as a smoke screen with not much money invested, in hopes that the high margin returns with trucks and suvs picks back up when the economy improves

I have a 08 focus witch I never thought I would buy and go figure, I love it.... the funny thing is that I put the NOS to it before it even hit 3000 miles LOL... its kind of funny seeing a focus flying down the street....... I like it

that ugly POS is 25k? get outta here..........that thing had better have 220+ HP hidden somewhere.

lol i'm being a smartass no idea how much it would cost
but you can see how it could cost a lot esp if it's got some
high end technology based around nasa designed 1 cylinder sun energy fueled drivetrain that get's 400 mpg and has .5 hp

nah, there's always going to be a minimum HP below which people will actually realize it's a liability on the road. Some of those VW diesels only have 90HP but it's a light car and they got lot's of torque which makes up for it. I'd rather have that available torque to get me out of trouble than have a car that can get to 120+, which I don't need. THose VW diesels will only go to 110-115, but they get there as quick or if not quicker and have better gas mileage.

I rented an '08 focus when I went to florida a few months ago. I surprisingly liked it as well.

Lmfao at putting NOS to a focus! I want to see some vids...

ford, by the virtue of NOT having obama as it's CEO, will kick ass in the future by designing and manufacturing autos and trucks that peeps WANT to buy..... NOT cars and trucks designed by washingtonians whose only contact with cars and trucks is limos and taxi cabs.

GM will become amtrack on tires.

They will because they are making good vehicles now. A small percentage? How is over half of USA people a small percentage of the pop? Ford has always been primarily a domestic brand. They are putting out some pimp ass vehicles. My mom and pops bought in the last two years, a Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. There are plenty of us USA pop who buy Ford. Discounted vehicles are fine, but someone like me wouldn't buy a GM/Chrysler product now or in the next 5 years.... (Disclaimer) I bought a yota, which I don't regret all that much, but looking back I would have bought a Ford Escape instead. I was looking budget at the time and didn't realize what financial state I'd be in...

I see ford making it. Auto sales rebound before cash runs out. They will still make trucks that while GM will be make volts or whatever small POS that americans don't want. Not to congress - this is not europe - we have parking space and long distance between towns.

Ford is already taking market share from Toyota. They pull through me says.
